Great to try out at first, easy to pass on afterwards.

@ariajuliet and @MelissaAq once raved about hitting up Veggie Grill to me and fellow meat lover @RyanWeiss. When they finally went, I still wasn't a believer. Not until another recent time we needed something to eat, and I was down to try something new. Veggie Grill is for sure something I've never had before; a vegan restaurant that serves meat like platters such as burgers, chicken sandwiches and carne asada burritos. I couldn't imagine me buying into the idea of enjoying a meatless burger, so instead I got my mind straight on the Portobello Mushroom burger (Papa's Portobello). It was pretty decent, to my surprise. While it wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten, there was nothing wrong with it or with anything I've had at the Veggie Grill. I won't lie, I actually enjoyed tasting a burger with absolutely no meat on it. And to top it off, I was full! I guess I've had this weird assumption that any place that doesn't have meat is going to leave me hungry soon after. The Pappa's Portobello did me right.

I've gone back to Veggie Grill a couple of times since my first vegetarian experience. The second time, I tried their V-Burger (made of "veggie-steak") and ordered it with a side of sweet potato fries. Again, nothing wrong with anything I ate and the fries were pretty good. I'd recommend Veggie Grill to anybody trying something long as you're down to drop some money! Being the frugal diner that I am, I just can't get past paying more than $10 for a meal that I know isn't meat. The Santa Fe Crispy Chickin', the V-Burger, All-American Stack and Chipotle BBQ sound great when you know that that's what you're getting. But to realize it's just an imitation of actual meat makes me want to second guess where I should be choosing my burger...when I'm feeling for a burger.

In the end, this place is cool for a once in a while healthy high or with friends who haven't been before. Other than that, leave me with my greasy, 100% ground beef patties, please!

We found Veggie Grill by pure mistake in El Segundo. I thought it would be another place that takes vegetarianism litterally to grilling veggies..but no. This place has everything a regular hamburger joint would have but vegan, delicious, healthy and NO processed foods or sugars or anything!      So I fell in love with this place.      My favorites are the Bali Bliss (burger), sweetheart fries, soups and salads, and the really good homemade strawberry …

The concept of Veggie Grill really delights me. The website says- Our purpose at The Veggie Grill is to serve you delicious and wholesome food. By wholesome, we mean good calories and good fats that are 100% plant-based.      I love this statement. Also, Veggie Grill is the brainchild of the co-founder of another of my favorite restaurants - Native Foods. So in theory I should love the chain...but there is just something that is keeping me from a "5" rating. Since I'm …
