I am not a modern day vampire fan. I grew up on Dracula, Dark Shadows and all the other traditional images of the blood sucking creatures. I had done well avoiding the rash of new vampire prose until I saw Fledgling, the last book published by Octavia Butler. I was immediately interested in her take on the subject and I was not disappointed. I especially liked the interdependence between the vampires and their 'victims'. at least in my eyes. I VERY rarely give 5 starts but this book was SO FREAKING WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have never read a book by Octavia Butler then quit being so lazy and start with this one! I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this book! This is the first book I've read by her but it WILL NOT be my last!! I'm so excited because I love finding a great book and a great author!!!
