Mixed feelings on this one

Overall, I was kind of disappointed with this session.  The problem is I don't know where to focus my disappointment.  

This was another one of those sessions that had more interested people than there were seats, so we had to go through the whole rigamaroll of letting people in in ones and twos as the volunteers located seats in the room.  After going through that whole thing, a number of people got up and left, which caused more people to come in.  This went on for a large part of the presentation, which, as you might imagine, was very distracting because not only were people coming and going, but the door was open which let the noise from the hall filter in.  Needless to say, I had a really hard time focusing on the actual presentation.  

One thing I considered about the huge number of people that got up and left at some point before the presentation ended (which was probably 75% of them) is that their expectations about the content didn't match what was actually presented.  I expected something more high-level than what they delivered based on the description.  If that was the problem, I hope the presenters reconsider how they describe their presentation in the future.  

Biggest Takeaway:  sometimes they produce a short movie to demonstrate concepts instead of doing a prototype to reinforce in the client's mind that the product isn't done (I worked on a project once where we did a prototype and one of the client reps asked how they would know it's done; I had to tell them it wouldn't look any different, "done" would just mean that it actually worked)

If this were my event....I would ask people to 1) sit in the middle of the row if you arrive early to make it easier for latecomers to join the party and 2) don't get up and leave 10 or 20 minutes into the presentation.

Having attended the session I was curious what the buzz was since so many got up and left. So I did a search and up popped your review. You are absolutely correct about the title and description setting expectations that were not delivered by the presentation. Personally I was expecting an overall look at best practices, including some flow charts, maybe some check lists or templates, etc. Not a sales presentation for his company Archetype.

This is one of those times when feedback cards from all those who left would be really handy. Obviously I don't know why everyone left; I can only surmise based on my own feelings (and now yours, too).
