The Internet has brought adult content into the home in a more accessible way, and the tabu factor once associated with explicit content is lower which has a lot to do with accessability and the evolution of social networking. There has been a major change in the sexual culture; sex health information is now more readily available online, unlike back in the 70s when adult material was hard to find and distribute.

Online interaction with fans has enabled Nina Hartley to have real time connections as opposed to blogs that need to be updated and are static. Fans can also find each other, and interact. There are also negatives in social networking in the porn industry because the Internet has changed the production system because of competition online. Piracy is also a big issue because the Internet makes it so accessible. Nina Hartley is launching a new online community called Sexwise.com (Sexwise.tv to come - every pun intended), a platform that creates a conversation about sex, when our society as a whole is not really talking about it.
