About Me

I'd like to share what I know about: Writing, Books, Movies

Hi!  It's nice to meet you here!  If you enjoy my writing, you may be interested in reading my memoir, Tainted Legacy.  Some years ago I discovered a family secret:  My great-grandmother, Bertha Gifford, had been accused of murdering enough people to classify her as a serial killer--in fact, America's first known female serial … more

I am a big fan of novels that include the paranormal, but not when the author bases paranormal depictions on his or her imagination. Fortunately, Amy Armbruster has had first-hand experiences with the …

Desert Soliloquy
I didn't know much about the premise of this novel before I began reading, and for some reason I had in my mind that it would fit the form of the standard "ex-love vs. new love" scenario. …

For the first fifty pages or so of this superbly written memoir, I had to keep reminding myself that it was indeed that--a memoir, a personal account of what Priamos experienced in her own life. I don't …

Wonderstruck
I loved The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Brian Selznick's first graphic novel. Would this new novel have the same depth of tenderness, the same intensity in plot line? I wondered--and now, having finished …

You know it's a great book when the characters feel like your friends, and you know you will miss them long after you've read the final book in the series. I think I will miss Beck forever.... Kudos to …

Hi Kay...I'm now writing the review for Tained Legacy. I always like to do a little back story...would you briefly fill me in on your recent visit to MIssouri, where you toured (the towns....who was there....and so on.) Also, you might enjoy one of my latest reviews on Starbucks....Starbucked!...The Demise of Donna's Double Latte! Thanks so much....how is school this year?? We're getting ready for Showmetalk's launch party, Oct. 4th. Have you listened to any more of the shows?? We're getting ready to post a new interview (any day now) with Dr. Ron Turner, Vice-President Emeritus- The University of Missouri......very prominent educator who is also very deep into storytelling. I'll let you know when it airs. Best to you.....

Donna, you must forgive me, please, for not replying sooner. My brother passed away on Labor Day. We are diminished... and I am in the midst of grief, planning a memorial service, helping my mother cope.... The past two weeks have been a blur. If you still need background material (and I can't thank you enough for writing a review), would you mind perusing my blog for June? I wrote a lot about the trip... and some interesting things that happened. Mostly, I was in Pacific, Washington, and of course, Catawissa. Here's a link to the blog for June: http://skaymurphy.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html Let me know if you need more....

I'm thrilled to know you're enjoying it! Thanks for keeping me posted! I'm off for a long hike and will listen to the interview with Rubright when I return--sounds like just the sort of thing I like!

I've already begun to read it and have to say that I love your writing style.....am anxious to read on! You might enjoy my latest review of Breakfast, Lunch and Diner by Robert Rubright. He's a cultural historian here and a dear friend of mine....a terrific writer too. I just posted the review on Lunch about a half hour ago. You can also listen to an interview with Robert on Showmetalkradio.com. In fact, Bob just taped his own show that will premier on Showmetalk in about a week. Take care....
