The zone perfect bar is my go-to in energy bars. It doesn't taste like other protein bars that are sometimes chalky and unsavory, it fills me up and it a perfect substitute for the 3pm sugar craving. :)
Balance bars are always a second or third choice for me. They aren't my go-to mainly because they are pretty darn small. If I am going to eat a protein bar with 200-250 calories in it, I want it to be a bit bigger. Nonetheless, the are a viable option when searching for some energy and the options are slim.
Clif Bars are delicious but they have a bit too much sugar for my taste and not enough protein. I don't want my energy bar to taste exactly like a candy bar...because then I would just eat a candy bar. Call me crazy but part of me wants to have a protein bar taste like a protein bar. There is some value in the satisfaction of feeling like I just ate something healthy.
I tried one of these Pro Bars once and I really liked it. They are full blown meal replacement bars...so they don't work for a mid-day snack but they are organic, 100% vegan, pretty tasty and come in a bizarre array of delicious flavors. hello Sesame Goji bar.
There is something just yummy about the Nature Valley granola bar. They aren't that healthy as they have a ton of sugar and not that much protein or fiber...but when hunting for a healthy option amongst cheetos and snickers...nature valley is the way to go.
Luna bars taste very, very good...and they are lower in calories than other popular "energy bars" but they always leave my stomach feeling funny. I'm not sure if they sneak sugar alcohol into this bar (notorious stomach troubles come from sugar alcohols) but I never feel "right" after eating a luna bar.
Pure Protein bars make me feel like I should be dead lifting dumbbells and wearing fingerless weight lifting gloves. These are truly the protein bars that gave protein bars a bad rap. Chalky, dry...come in flavors like cookie and cream...and never taste like cookies and cream.
I was born in East Amherst, NY...lived there for 13 years before moving to Vadnais Heights, MN. I spend 5 years in MN, decided it was too darn cold there and ventured onto college in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona … more
