posted a Quick Tip about Veronica Mars.
June 21, 2010
Just started watching season one! There are many similarities to 'Mars' and 'Smallville' so far in my early watching. Cloe and Veronica are both super sleuths. Except Cloe of course is involved with Clark … more
Through some convenient electrocution, rather than dying, Mel's character has the ability to read women's minds. He uses this to get back at a woman who took the job he wanted, except he didn't count … more
A remake that rivals the original, strange goings on and murder at an Arctic scientific settlement after the discovery of alien significance. Loved this "thing". Great job by John Carpenter.
Not recommended. Unrealistic premise of the world ending and though better than the revised Day the Earth Stood Still, the ending was contrived and the earth ending wasn't satisfying. Still, the acting … more
Such mixed up geography and unrealistic motives that the film was at best a confusing journey. I loved the saber tooth tiger scene, but it didn't really go anywhere or helped the plot! Four stars for … more
For some odd reason, what attracted me to this film was not only Angelina Jolie (LOL) but the steam punk look! Loved the collector's edition cameras being used! Overly CGI but a great tribute to the serials … more
as you have requested and as discussed, you have requested to have your communities deleted since you say you want your account deleted. However, the more you create, or do stuff for your communities, it may slow down the process. To expedite the process and if you are serious about deleting those communities, you may delete the community members yourself or you may wait until the system does so itself. This may take time since I myself may have to remove things manually. Thanks.
Fast! Great and thanks! I'm going to check it out soon. I heard that "Shall We Dance" is a good film. Never seen it but perhaps I will have to now, lol!
ScotmanFebruary 21, 2011
Netflix is sending me The Gay Divorcee, another Astaire film.
AdriannaFebruary 22, 2011
That is the one that people say "Top Hat" is the most like. I hope you enjoy it!
ScotmanFebruary 22, 2011
Yep! Many of these old Classic films I also have never watched, despite my "advanced age", LOL. Thanks to the miracles of DVD and streaming video, we can still enjoy this stuff. I even read a review from an 18 year old who loved the Sixties jazz because it had a different feel.
There's so much good in the old stuff as the new stuff's foundation is built on the old, familiar films and music. Anyway, not to blather on and on (I tend to do that, LOL), but I cleaned up the entry to The Gay Divorcee.
I did not know that several of the cast are the same as in the other two I reviewed: Edward Everett Horton and our favorite butler, Eric Blore. There's supposed to be a TWENTY minute dance at the end of the film -- since I do not find Astaire or Rogers boring, this should be fun. I posted a movie poster and a trailer in the wiki .
This YouTube quality is not the best, but should get you interested! Spanish subtitles.
ScotmanFebruary 22, 2011
Even my answers to comments come across as Quick Tips, LOL.
AdriannaFebruary 23, 2011
It's nice to know that the classic films are still easily accessible to all types of viewers.
Yeah, one of the main critiques of Top Hat was that it was basically The Gay Divorcee. It has the same crew and the same story plot.
And, nothing wrong with answers coming across like QTs. That's fun stuff!
ScotmanFebruary 23, 2011
I guess Hollywood at the time was just inventing formulas. If it works, let's do it again. The industry has not changed that much has it? Now we have 3D and remakes. Netflix: Just got the DVD but am waiting until the weekend when I'll have time. Have clases, etc. this week. I have The Gay Divorcee and a two disc showing of Schindler's List, which I've always wanted to see but never have.
AdriannaFebruary 24, 2011
Yeah, I'm sure you're right, and I also agree with todays formulas and constant remakes. "Schindler's List" is a great movie...very tragic!
ScotmanApril 09, 2011
I just watched "Follow the Fleet" a much different film than Top Hat!
AdriannaApril 11, 2011
Nice! I haven't had the time to view new films as of late. I'm heading home tomorrow, but I will make another trip home for my grandmother's 90th birthday this upcoming weekend. I also want to check on my dad again while he's recovering.
ScotmanApril 11, 2011
Wow 90! Most of my elderly relatives never make it much past 85, unfortunately. I hope to beat the trend, LOL. As I get older unfortunately people pass away and it doesn't get much easier as I get older. Anyway, on a lighter note, I do try to find time to watch Netflix and also do a bunch of photography. It's near the end of the semester in my lighting class and it's not getting any easier. It's challenging which is a good thing, but I wish we had more drilling and practice on the concepts we're taught. My dad is not in the best of health either, so I do sympathize. Thanks.
AdriannaApril 12, 2011
I have two grandmothers: Theresa is 90 this Friday and Grandma Gray is 93, turning 94 this year. I have some pretty amazing people in my family, but they are all through my husband's side. My grandfather is 84 (my mother's side).
I'm sure you are looking forward to the end of the semester.
I'm sorry about your father. I hope he can get healthier given time. It's very difficult taking care of sick family members.
ScotmanApril 12, 2011
Thanks for your kindness, Adri. He has a heart condition so these things happen. He came back home today. I don't live with him anymore but stay in touch with my brother, who does. Yep, end semester would be nice! Lots to do. Fortunately there is no written final exam. It's all about shooting pictures and turning in your best shots.
ScotmanApril 12, 2011
Forgot to mention: my father is 75, a youngster compared to your grandparents! Mine passed away over 20 years ago.
AdriannaApril 12, 2011
Yes, sadly these things do happen. I'm glad that my parents received a wake-up call from this event and are working to take better care of each other now. Good luck with the pictures! Yay for there being no final exam! Sorry to hear about the loss of your grandparents. It's been quite a few years for my grandparents on my mom's and dad's sides of the family. Grandpa Olivo is the only one still alive.
Do you know where the link is for the book review whose writings were anti-dianetics? James' said you thought it was hate-speech, and I wanted to check it out, especially if it was posted in my reading community. Thanks! Appreciate any help you can offer. :)
ScotmanJanuary 11, 2011
No, that's OK. That's an old issue and we already discussed it at the time. I don't want to dredge up old upsets.
What I meant to say is that the book itself was hate speech, not the author of the review.
AdriannaJanuary 13, 2011
Ok, well, that's good to know at least. I don't want a reviewer writing hate speeches in my community. I can understand about extreme books, but I guess I would have to actually read it to understand what you mean. Thanks for the clarification.
ScotmanJanuary 13, 2011
Happy to help. We don't worship the guy and he's not crazy, which is why I was quite put out by this book, which I did flip through when it came out. Anyway, no problem to you. I'm trying to stick to my fiction and photography hobbies and stay out of trouble -- but being the Leo the Lion I often growl at this kinda controversy, LOL.
To write fuller reviews, I would have to reread all the books! I think I posted a bunch of quick tips earlier. I plan more author badges for Forbidden Planet.
AdriannaDecember 01, 2010
Well, nothing wrong with a good re-read when you're in the mood. At least you got the QT badge for Harry Potter reads. Nice, look forward to them. :)
ScotmanDecember 01, 2010
Yes, last night I added Jack McDevitt. I'm learning more about these authors I have no familiarity with which is great since it expands my reading list! I am a moderator on the "dreams of our youth" community and added a Leslie Nielsen badge for many of his film appearances.
AdriannaDecember 01, 2010
Nice! Didn't realize you were a moderator elsewhere. Busy man!
ScotmanDecember 01, 2010
Lopez15 placed me there without telling me. Imagine my surprise when I was able to add badges and edit topics!
AdriannaDecember 01, 2010
LOL! That's funny. Maybe he thought he had asked you at one point.
ScotmanDecember 01, 2010
Yes, probably.
AdriannaDecember 02, 2010
And would you have said yes? lol!
ScotmanDecember 02, 2010
Oh yes, LOL! When you have too many tasks, give them to a busy man!
Yes, episode reviews and whatever is on the list. I added the episodes. There are not that many topics for Quantum Leap that I think could be added to Lunch!
I'll read yours later tonight. I have catching up to do in regards to comments and reviews to read.
