My favorite nature's call ;-)

I am sharing some photos from the 2010 National Geographic's Photography Contest in the "Nature's Category" (I thought it best to list pictures from the same category and rate them accordingly since there is more than enough photos that's truly appealing & worth sharing with everyone). This list is still a work in progress since the contest is sill ongoing until end Nov.

In any case, here are some of my most favorites, hope you like it too! If you want to see most of the pictures I've added into the Images community, you're more than welcome to join the community and take the Nature's Call Poll! Have fun!
Ocean Waves
Stark, incredible, unique and totally unpredictable! How did the photographer managed to capture such an image on film is still beyond me. It is not only interesting, it's also a new way of looking at things. That's how marvelous this picture is. I thought it was some storm hitting a gigantic water planet! Unbelievable!
A supercell thunderstorm rolls across the Montana prairie at sunset
I had always been enchanted with super storms or volcano. The nature's element that's so destructive and yet so seductive. Watching it on film or in movie is excellent. Catching it on film in person is really not something I'd ever do out of my own initiative. Hence, photographers who do that often have my utmost respect! Imagine, some of them might even risk their lives for a picture! OMG!
Cloud and Ship
Whenever I'm on the plane, I've always been looking out for odd shaped clouds and whatever out there in the small window. So you know, window seat please! Interesting how this photographer managed to hit jackpot with this capture. I've been on the plane more than majority of people in this world, but I've yet seen such a spectacular display of cloud!
Penguins, Antarctica
Yes, I've been there. Antarctica. It's a cool (& also extremely cold) place to take photos but often one doesn't have the incentive of staying put long enough to capture a great picture. This one is not the greatest I've seen but it is one of the most interesting. Look closely at the penguin's expression. That element of joy and thrill; it's almost like it's human! That is what makes this such a great picture for me :-)
Arm of God
One of the last batches of photo, this storm looks like that of a nuclear war or a super volcano eruption! If storm can look like this, I can't imagine what the other two situation would look like!!! God or no God, this is one sight to behold as long as you're not in its path!
Night sky, Arches National Park Utah
Been there, done that! But, never been spending the night under the sky though. And this is one such dream I've. Camping in the Arches National Park beckons! Look at how marvelous the sight is! I'm tempted, so very tempted!
Newport Beach, California
This photo looks like a melody to me. It's like those birds are dancing to an orchestra, the music of nature! How on earth did someone take such a photo while surfing in the sea? Oh my...
Mountains, Italy
Great mountain pix with the height & size element. It wouldn't have been so great if not the inclusion of the man in the background. Tells you how small men are when compared to nature, isn't it?!
Thunderbird Rocks
A marvelous hue of violet which makes this Lake Tahoe pix unique and unbeatable.
Spruce Forest
I feel like Christmas is just around the corner when looking at the photo! Did you see the tint of red?
Moonlight Sonata
Is this for real? The clouds and sea seems to merge! Excellent reflection of the bridge too. No, it's not in the U.S. but in Korea. Who could have thought of that?
Fear God
One of the best pix on surfers I've ever seen. It's as if these surfers are symphonies of the sea!
Morning Bromo
I'm more interested in where the photography is standing! I've seen a few great photos of Mount Bromo. This is such a special place!
Deserts are often fascinating and a great subject to capture. I've partial to it since as long as I can remember. Just wish I've the chance to go to the Sahara soon! I missed it the last time I was in Morocco! Why? Just don't fancy spending a night in the desert alone with some Arabs, that's why! ;-)
Imperial Sand Dunes, California
The everlasting sand dunes, in black and white, as old as time. This is a photo which speaks volume!

What did you think of this list?
