Things to look forward to in 2010

  • Jan 2, 2010
Major events in 2010.
Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China
Expo 2010 will be ongoing for 6 months beginning May 1 in Shanghai, China. Having lived in this city for almost 2 years in the last 3 years, I'm looking forward to seeing the new faces of Shanghai (Shanghai was like a major construction site for the last 2 years, what a mess!). Remember to visit only after the May 1st official opening (& try not to do it in the first 10 days of May as it's China's Golden Week, everyone who travels in China will surely be here, if you haven't seen more people than that in Disney World on New Year's or Christmas Eve, then this will be the place to be during the first 2 weeks of May!). Best time as far as I'm concerned is early to mid September when all the students have gone back to school & weather is most pleasant!

2010 International CES
I won't be able to make it to this one in Las Vegas but those who are into technology and gadgets shouldn't. This is the show that features over 2700 exhibitors. Jan. 7 - 10. Go for it, Lunchers! For those who are able to make it there, please, please write reviews on those tablets that are going to hit the market soon! I wonder if Apple is going to surprise the market with another new awesome product! Wish I could be there!
Chinese New Year
We have Chinese New Year every year but this one is special for it falls on the same day as with Valentine's Day! Incidentally, Chinese New Year (in some way similar to 12 days of Christmas) lasts for 15 days & the last day of Chinese New Year is commonly also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day.

2010 Winter Olympics (XXI Olympic Winter Games)
I'm not into sports but for those sports enthusiasts the first major sports event begins in Vancouver, Canada (Feb 12-28). I do love to watch figure skating so hopefully I'd be able to catch it on the TV.

2010 FIFA World Cup
The last time I was at the World Cup was in 2006 in Hamburg & Berlin. It was quite something to be among all those hot blooded males who were there for sports! Fun time! This year, it will be in South Africa, first time ever it's hosted by an Africa Nation. Hmm, sounds good. I should make a date with Glenn & his wife (a friend I met via VirtualTourist.com & in person when I visited Capetown)! June 11-July 11. Probably best time to extend trip to the deserts and dunes of Namibia too. I've been dying to get there!

Youth Olympic Games
The first Youth Olympic Games ever will be held in Singapore. That's where family is living so no problem getting a room at all!
Burj Dubai
The tallest man-made structure in the world will be open on Jan. 4 in Dubai. Another reason to get there this year.
Total Solar Eclipse of July 11, 2010
This one will be over Easter Island, another place I've been dying to make a trip to. Hopefully, another miracle is in sight & I'll be here to see both the mysteries of this universe!
December 2010 Lunar Eclipse
Well, both different eclipses within 6 months or so. Why not, right? It's like after visiting Antarctica & then heading for the Arctic. So, Total Lunar Eclipse at end of the year sounds good to me ;-) Another date with North & South America or Japan.
36th G8 Summit
36th G8 Summit is scheduled to be in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada at Deerhurst Resort (June 25-27). You can't attend it but you can certainly see it happening on the TV and news. (G8 Participants: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK, US)
G20 Summit
Happening at the same time with the G8 Summit in June, the G20 Summit will be held in Toronto. What the G20 finance ministers & central bank governors decide have huge impacts on life around the world. So, make sure you catch the highlights! It affects if you end the year financially well or otherwise.
British Open 2010
This one gets onto this list because although I wasn't a fan of golf I had been to this course during one of my visits to the U.K. Beautiful course overlooking the sea. Why it is on this list because it's the very first time Tiger Woods won't be here to win the tournament or even to play. So, the playing field is open to anyone and everyone who didn't get their chance with Woods around! Watch out for July 11!

What did you think of this list?

I'm not into sports either but the winter olympics are so great to watch. Figure skating? toboggan? I LOVE IT

Nice! I am looking forward to several of those in your list. World Expo is going to be so cool. You cooking for Chinese New Year?
January 04, 2010
Hahaha... I never cook, be it for a man or for Chinese New Year. That's why I'm still single ;-)

Eeeep, so much exciting stuff going on this year!  I'm looking forward to the World Expo, too.  Not so much about being there (which I'm not going to be), but about reading it since I'm sure it will be insanely crowded.  Nice list, Sharrie!

You are not going to be there? Why not? It's not that far away from HK and i'm sure you'll make your trip to HK this year! Btw, there's an hour flight from HK to Shanghai. You must go! :-)
January 10, 2010
I'm afraid of the large crowds of people! I purposely didn't go during the time of the Olympics either. If you do go though, pics and a review, please! :P
January 11, 2010
Hoping to go but not sure how soon. Definitely not the first 2 weeks of opening. Way too crowded.
