Earth Day
Earth Day and Conservatism   April 22, 1970 was the first designated Earth Day and was also the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin, the Russian Marxist Revolutionary and Creator of the Soviet Communist Party. Coincidence? Some think not, which along with being sponsored by many "liberal organizations" across the globe as well as liberals across our country, created a polarization …

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
By Dr. Joseph S. Maresca 8.9 Earthquake in Japan and Asian Tsunami Across the Pacific An 8.9 earthquake (Richter scale) hit Honshu, Japan just hours ago. There was tremendous devastation everywhere.  The last major event of this size in Asia was on 12-16-1920 in Gansu, China.  200,000 people died in the Gansu earthquake. The actual loss of life in Japan may not be known for weeks.  …

Earth Day
Why is it a mere +2 rating? Well, no, it's not because I don't appreciate the Earth or going green, but rather, the idea that we have to have an Earth Day to remind us that Earth exists! It's like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthday, Labor Day, Secretarial Day, etc, etc...      Every day should be an Earth Day, a Father's Day, a Birthday... not a designated …

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
Now that the Japanese Yen has skyrocketed to an all time high against the US$, what are the raminifications for the world at large? Japan is after all the 2nd largest economy in the world for the majority of the last few decades, until recently overtaken by China.       Japanese have a great deal of investments (direct or indirect) in the world. Japanese also holds a lot of …

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
Exactly a week after the 9.0 magnitude and tsunami in northern Japan, I found myself landing in Shanghai, a city which is a mere 2 hours flight from Tokyo. Flights, I was told, are full for those trying to get out of Tokyo. It's a hectic exodus for many foreigners who study, live or vacationing in Japan. Foreign companies are chartering flights to get their staff out, no matter what the cost is!   …

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
I remembered back when I was a child, there was a Japanese tv series titled "The Sinking of Japan" (A movie was later made in 2006, I believe). We love it so much so we were glued to the tv whenever the series was on. When I saw what happened to Sendai this afternoon (a city I had once visited), instinctively, THE SINKING OF JAPAN came to mind. Yes, I spent an afternoon following the news …

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
For an earthquake of that magnitude, it hasn't wrecked as much havoc as it could have. The blessing lies in that it hits not the most populated area of Tokyo but Sendai instead. Yes, the tsunami caused financial damages insofar that a lot of farmlands are wiped out. Hopefully, as of now, it is not one that rivals that of the 2004 tsunami! Death tolls have climbed to 1598 (Monday) with 9500 unaccounted …

TOMS Shoes
TOMS are quite comfortable, but they do shrink when they get wet, so be careful. That makes them hard to wash, though they get dirty very easily. I still love my TOMS, even if they are a little too tight.

TOMS Shoes
I want to love these shoes and buy a pair because I think the company is doing a great thing with their mission, but unfortunately TOMS shoes will never appear on my feet. I really don't think they're attractive....at all. I saw a spiffed up pair at Nordstrom's recently. They were gold, with gold sequins. I thought about trying them on, but i just couldn't do it.

The Bluma Project
I found this colorful, ethnic jewelry line while perusing Anthropologie.com for holiday gifts. Of course the chunky statement pieces instantly drew my attention, but when I read about the company that facilitates the creation of this line, I was all the more interested in making a purchase.      Created by Designer Beth Schaeffer, The Bluma Project is a line of textiles and jewelry …

The world is a dangerous place to live
The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.      - Albert Einstein            Apathy         I am a police officer and tonight I had a strange assignment. There is a guy who is in a closed ward in a mental hospital and he frightens the staff …

I have a hectic life. I'm planning my own wedding and because of budget constraints, I'm DIYing a lot of it. I'm attempting to get my BA after I had to change majors due to circumstances beyond my control.  I have two jobs and work around 50-60 hours a week. I run my own company as well. In between all of this, I maintain my relationships, make time for the Fs in life- …

PITCH: AFRICA
Last week while flipping through the channels I came across a news report about PITCH: AFRICA. What I saw immediately drew me in and I wanted to know everything about it. I first saw people playing soccer on some weird looking blue field but as I kept watching I realized that this weird blue field is actually an amazing way to help villages in Africa harvest rainwater.      PITCH: …
