An introduction to Pentangle

The summer after I graduated from high school I had a girlfriend who listened to music unlike any I'd heard up until that time. She introduced me to the music of guitarist Bert Jansch and the new group he had formed with guitarist John Renbourn, bassist Danny Thompson, drummer Terry Cox, and vocalist Jacqui McShee. They were an acoustic group called "Pentangle" who combined traditional British folk music with American blues and jazz with startling and spectacular results. They released 6 albums between 1968 and 1972, some of which are hard to find today. The anthology "Light Flight" released by Sanctuary/Castle in 2002 is a nice introduction to this great group of musicians. I took several of the photos posted with this list when they played at the Troubadour in 1970 or so – I went every night the week they played that club on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.
