The Family Room is a place for Lunch members to get together and examine the cultural importance of familial bonds and, in particular, to review all things relating to raising children. It's not easy knowing what is and isn't appropriate for children based on their age and what is beneficial to their developing bodies, minds, and spirits. How do you help to guide them without over-stepping their boundaries or molding their personalities? How do you know what films, television programs, and books are age appropriate? How do you know what toys to buy and which ones to avoid? What do you tell them about the inevitable problems that they will face in life and yet still keep their outlook positive? What foods are important for their health and what foods could be detrimental? How do you respond to social pressures, media influence, and differences in parenting techniques? What can be done to instill morals and manners without restricting a child's personal freedoms?
Let's face it, raising a family has never been easy, not for the adults and not for the kids. Hopefully, what we can provide here is a place for people to come together and really discuss what works best for them, a place where they can give and receive advice, suggest educational tools and family-friendly entertainment, share personal philosophies, and discuss the ins and outs of raising a family in the confusing modern world.
