Rougher, darker and moodier Trek adventure puts a Federation crew co-habitating with a peaceful and struggling alien species on an abandoned space station to help keep peace. Perhaps the best ensemble of a Trek show with the best of balancing episodes and features in it's later seasons the most action of any of the series. Animated take on the original series showcases through an animated medium what the Star Trek world could have accomplished with a larger budget in a live action setting. Fills in some important gaps in that five year mission and had some good episodes, it just ran too short.

Badly retconning at times Star Trek history may only be a minor quibble but only 4 seasons longcompared to 7 in the contemporary Trek shows, a love it or hate it third season and a real cop out on the finale leaves a sour taste in some peoples mouths. The far back in Treks history does have appeal. First Trek show to have a pop song as the intro!
Interesting premise of a small Federation ship flung to the far corners of space and it's long and dangerous trek home gets flushed down the toilet with rarely exploiting the "Lost in Space" premise of the show. It also short changes the supporting cast almost as bad as The Original Series did with a crew that isn't as engaging as it should be.
