My 5 favorite SNES games

The SNES has got to be my favorite system. It was back when games were games, where you got a little realism but not too much and it was FUN. It had a few masterpieces on it and here are my favorite 5.
super mario kart game box cover
It started Mario's second official and major game series where you can go it alone or a friend and race around the Mushroom Kingdom. Turtle Shells and Star Man are your weapons, Cape Feathers and Mushrooms are your tools. A blast that some people consider being better then the later and spiffier games.

See the full review, ""Up around the curve on turn 2 is Mario with the turtle shell and OOOH a wipeout!!!"".
Sim City (SNES)
Build a city, set taxes, solve problems like pollution or if you get fed up, you can knock your city down with floods and earthquakes. Nice and fun little game.

See the full review, ""Mr. Mayor, your citizens don't like the houses built right by the airport"".
Final Fantasy II
Back in it's humbler roots Final Fantasy was starting to show it's soap opera and wishy washy characters that would mar the later sequels but here it was still kept down and still a fun game. Take your hero Cecil around the world, under it and beyond to save the crystals that will be perverted to serve evil.

See the full review, "The great adventure of 93 was the quest of a lifetime.".
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Link's 16 bit treatment was the only time Link made the jump onto the SNES but what a quest it was. Help Link save the royal bloodline of Hyrule before it's too late and travel between Hyrule and the now twisted Golden Land to vanquish the Wizard Agahnim and his evil.

See the full review, ""Link.....this is Sahasrahla......this game is great.....you must play it again....."".
Donkey Kong Country 2 Diddy Kong Quest
Platforming with monkey's turned out to be a blast, a very tough blast as it would prove as you take Diddy and Dixie to rescue Donkey from Crocodile Isle. Ramped up the already impressive graphics and sounds from the previous game and improved the gameplay considerably. A fun game to be sure, but also a challenging one.

What did you think of this list?

Pretty Good, Good, flawed and censored, Awesome, repetitive, nice port, never played it, and a flawed port.

My SNES TOP 5: 1) Contra III 2) Super Mario kart 3) Street Fighter II 4) Chrono Trigger 5) Super Punch Out
October 08, 2010
I forgot about Contra 3. Thats good but alas on a new list I just made I forgot it. I'll have to put it on there.
October 08, 2010
Yes, Contra is an amazing game, totally rocks

Fact: If someone's top five SNES games doesn't include Earthbound, they haven't played Earthbound.
October 08, 2010
It must be fact since I've never played Earthbound. I know of it though.

I love how everyone's chiming in about how you forgot certain titles when it's clearly labeled as your personal top 5. Even so though, the presence of Sim City disturbs me. Mine would look something like this 1.Chrono Trigger 2. Super Metroid 3. Street Fighter (Turbo, Alpha... all of 'em really) 4. Super Mario World 5. Super Mario RPG (Legend of the Seven Stars)
October 08, 2010
It was the third game I owned, my sister introduced me to the game and I made it a personal quest to get the highest population that I could and no matter how many times I played it, it was always fun and always a challenge to try new things. Thank you for understanding that this is MY personal list cause it would look just like any other list for SNES games out there if it wasn't. The games everyone else mentioned ARE good just that these are my favorites.

This list clearly labels you as a NERD. Aside from Zelda and maybe Mario Kart, people who played these titles are now playing World of Warcraft.
October 07, 2010
Not that there's anything wrong with that. But there IS something wrong with not listing Super Metroid
October 07, 2010
Well, I'm NOT playing WOW and I never have. I like Super Metroid but it's not in my top 5. I can always make another list since I do like other SNES games. Out of curiosity though, what about DKC2 makes me a nerd for playing? It's a good game.

Nice list, I agree with all of them except I would put FF3 in place of FF2. And to those claiming that chrono trigger belongs on the list .. it was good, but its got nothing on final fantasy, never has and never will.
October 07, 2010
It was hard to choose between them, but if I started putting FF2, FF3, Chrono ETC it becomes the favorite RPG list. I only wanted 1 FF game and 2 is the one I have more fond memories of playing but yeah, 3 IS great.
October 07, 2010
Chrono Trigger is just The best RPG game Ever made for the SNES.
October 08, 2010
CHrono Trigger is the best RPG ever!!
October 07, 2010
you forgot crono trigger ff3 and metroid
October 07, 2010
No I didn't. I wanted a short list and these are my favorites. Yes, I like those games but they aren't my most favorites.

I was a huge SNES user back in the day. Zelda rules! where's the original Mario though? ;)
September 30, 2010
Original Mario is good, just didn't like it as much as other games on here.
