About The Vampire Historians...
Welcome to The Vampire Historians community on!
Queen of the Night (a.k.a. The Burney Relief)
I've created this community for those of you who tread a slightly darker path than most, for those of you who are fascinated and transfixed by the recurring themes within mythology, history, and culture... the theme of the vampire!

In this community, we will be doing a number of things:
First and foremost, we will be discussing how the belief in vampires originated and what has allowed for this belief to flourish through the ages.
Secondly, we will be reviewing myths and legends of vampires, literature, films, artwork, music, and poems all having to do with vampires.
Thirdly, we will examine the place of the vampire in contemporary culture and the cultural implications that our current vampire obsession holds.
And finally, we will be providing people unfamiliar with the history of this mythical monster with an educational overview and an entertaining resource for information.

Now, there are a few particular topics, which will always be the primary focus of the community, and these topics are:
Vampire Mythology, which is a look at how the belief in vampires began and how it's changed over time;
Vampires in Pop Culture, which is a topic where you can review how vampires have evolved from folkloric monsters to matinee idols and how they affect pop culture;
Carmilla, which was one of the first great masterpieces of vampire literature and one of the first to directly address the connection between vampirism and sexuality;
Dracula, which remains the single most definitive piece of vampire literature ever written and has been embraced as an all-time classic example of the horror genre;

And of course, vampire films, television shows, and books in all of their respective genres and sub-genres.

There is also a community that bears the same name on MySpace and it is in essence an expansion of this community for people who aren't interested in writing reviews. There we will focus more on discussion forums.
Al Lewis as Grandpa on "The Munsters".
Thanks for your interest and I look forward to seeing where this will go!
