Although, there may have been an actual event that inspired this image, it should be known that this woodcut and others like it were created by Germans, who were Vlad's enemies. Therefore this cannot be seen as an accurate historical document of what really occurred, but is in fact a piece of propaganda. Interestingly, it is most likely this image which combined the motifs of impalement, death, and eating that inspired Stoker to name his vampire Count Dracula.
