There Will Come Soft Rains
Who else but Bradbury could make you cry over the death of a mechanical house? Or is it perhaps the death of an entire way of life?
2
The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft
Yes, I know that Lovecraft wrote fiction, but what if........... Terrifying not because of what Lovecraft wrote but because of what he hinted at
3
Mimsy Were the Borogoves by Lewis Padgett
Lewis Padgett was the pen name for husband and wife team Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore. If you are a parent, this is the most horrible story imaginable. If you are not , you will still be shocked and terrified.
4
The Opener of the Way by Robert Bloch
A story of an Egyptian curse, but with a spin that only Bloch could have thought of. Terrifying!!!!
5
The Cairn on the Headland by Robert E Howard
A terrifying version of the Battle of Clontarf, when Brian Boru and the Irish drove the Norse invaders from Ireland. Not the version to be found in history books, though, and much more terrifying
