I'm a T-shirt and jeans kinda gal. I'm not one of those girls that has dreamed about her wedding or her wedding dress since she was 7. Suffice to say, I wasn't necessarily looking forward to trying on wedding dresses all day. What if they were like those shopgirls from Pretty Woman and looked at me like I didn't belong? What if I didn't THE ONE? What if I couldn't afford it? How many of these things will I have to try on before it's wine time?
Service: As we stepped into the salon- mom, maid of honor and 10 year old iPod-toting niece in tow- we were greeted warmly by THE Trudy. I was a little surprised since this is a chain that the actual Trudy was there in all her glory behind the counter, ringing up orders and greeting everyone that came through the door with a warm handshake. She welcomed us to have some water and cookies. Clearly, she wasn't like the shopgirls, she was more like that nice older lady that helped Julia Roberts character find all those beautiful gowns.
My consultant, Terry, came out with some paperwork. Though it was busy, there wasn't a long wait time. I had brought some photos of what I wanted and let her know that I wasn't interested AT ALL in A-line traditional bridesy gowns and foofoo princess dresses with tiaras.
Variety: It looked like every bridal gown ever made was at that store. They had so many, that Trudy had to open another store next door to fit the bridesmaid, mother-of-the-bride, and special occasion dresses. When I was waiting for Terry, I was eavesdropping and watching all the other brides, all different sizes, cultures and shapes trying on one gown after another and I couldn't believe that Trudy's seemed to have something for everyone. She sure had mine- a La Sposa strapless trumpet with a beautiful train.
Price: Here's my one wedding dress shopping tip for you: Tell them your budget BEFORE you try on dresses. I didn't do that and fell in love that was outside of my budget but, suddenly, had to have. Trudy's will have beautiful dresses for you in that range. Her price range is from $299-$7000.
We paid the deposit and there was Trudy raving how I had been the first "small girl" to try it on and that I looked verrrrry European. Terry came out and gave me a hug and said that she'd have the dress, in my size, in a few weeks.
That was it?!? It was sooo easy, I couldn't believe it, and I actually kinda enjoyed myself. Trudy's is the best- they're warm, patient, knowledgeable, professional and, most importantly, will talk you off the ledge enough to find you THE dress.
