Pros: A few cute scenes, nice musical number

The Bottom Line: There are a few well done scenes that keep this from being trashcan fodder. Dermot Mulroney is always nice to look at.
...the last line of the movie. I think the very end was the best part of this film. The rest of the time the ridiculous angst filling was a bit wearing on me.
Julianne (Julia Roberts) learns that her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) is getting married to Kimberly (Cameron Diaz)
Julianne is crazy, neurotic, and at least six months too late to figure out that she loves her "best friend." She spends the entire movie trying to pull dirty tricks to break up his planned wedding. The situations just made me miserable.
There were enjoyable highlights to this film...the various musical interludes, from Kimberly singing badly (and I mean ROTTEN) karaoke to the entire luncheon table singing Dionne Warwick. In fact this lunch scene is so vivid to me that I cannot hear "Say a Little Prayer for Me" without picturing this formally dressed group of folks around the table singing back and forth to each other building to a crescendo.
Julianne's gay editor, George played by Rupert Everett was delightful also--not to mention gorgeous. I even enjoyed the "vengeful sluts" the maids of honor, and one of them getting her tongue stuck to the ice statue of Michelangelo's David was briefly amusing. For the most part, the rest of the movie made me crazy.
Julianne chasing Michael chasing Kimberly was a scene that went on about 5 minutes too long for me. I think it was about 5.5 minutes. 30 seconds would have been enough.
What I probably enjoyed more than anything is a scene that takes place in the ladies room at the baseball stadium as Julianne begs for Kimberly's forgiveness. The women standing around are so interested in the proceedings and feel free about offering advice. It is comic.
What is really amazing to me is that the best friend and bride so easily forgive her. I'd have run her out of town missing a few body parts.
I found some entertainment here, but to me it wasn't worth the cringing.
ADDENDUM:
On later repeated watching of this movie, I'll have to add that the scene of Kimberly (Cameron Diaz) driving like a maniac made me almost lose my cookies. The scene was well done, but convinces the viewer that Kimberly is a hair away from going postal.

Very funny film...had some great moments....MY BEST FRIEND's WEDDING...love Julia Roberts, but Carmen Diaz stole the show..

Julia Roberts seems to have that rare charisma and likability factor that makes you care about her especially when she's in a sweet movie such as this one. However, I feel she's upstaged by Cameron Diaz in this movie. I'm not a big Cameron fan but she is so good in this movie. She makes her Kimmie character sweet and endearing that even though you might be insanely jealous of her character's youthfulness and money, you really want her as your best friend. Im so tired of these crappy love of movies. Theyre boring, predictable, and unoriginal. Guy meets girl/girl meets guy, theres love at first site but maybe for some reason they cant be together however somehow a relationship of sorts is built and when things are going good and looking to take off Bamm! theres this big conflict that threatens the potential relationship.
