Peter Jackson's award-winning 2001 film adaptation of the first volume of Tolkien's epic fantasy novel.
< read all 13 reviews The first in the epic film trilogy based on Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, this Fellowship of the Ring is a masterful adaptation of one of the greatest fantasy tales of all time. Lengthy by movie standards, the 2+ hour feature is far too short to offer viewers the full wonder of Tolkien's universe. While this is a fantastic adaptation, nothing can compare to the book itself. Fans should definitely read it.
That being said, there are a few moments when Peter Jackson has managed to capture the magic of a particular scene from the novel; the warm little Shire or the tense confrontation with the troll deep in the dwarven mines. For the fantastic characters, epic plot line, beautiful fantasy worlds, and exciting action sequences, I recommend this film to everyone ever. However, if you're considering the book and you haven't yet seen this film, I strongly recommend reading the book before you see the movie. That way, images from the film won't be in your head and you will be free to create the look and feel of the environment and characters all on your own.
