My Ten Favorite PS2 Games
So why the PS2 and not some other system? Well, for one, while the N64, PSOne, Dreamcast and a few portables (never owned an SNES, only played at friends') all had some timeless classics, I never owned more than 15-20 games for each of them. Not to mention my tastes have changed drastically, and I don't recall a whole lot of the old games in detail, so to make a top ten list for those system would be fairly pointless. On the other hand, my PS2 experiences are fairly recent (within the last 10 years), and I owned + played a whole lot of games for it (well over a 100).
The following games are what I consider "nearly perfect experiences", meaning I felt almost every aspect of each game was flawlessly and brilliantly executed to the point where what matters cannot possibly be further improved (be it the visual style, gameplay, pace of progression, or all the small details that defy categorization). There is nothing I dislike to any discernible degree about these games.
Missing from this list are 5 to 6 more games that I really, really enjoyed beyond the rest of the pack, but I decided to cut the list at 10 because it sounds better and I'm OCD like that. Also, from the 12th game onward they had some issues that ever so slightly lowered my overall experience (not major, but enough), relegating them to being "merely" excellent games rather than my absolute cream of the crop.
