Pho

Phong Vinh is quite new in Northbridge and if you love Vietnamese soups, you should definitely give them a try. The place is clean and comfy. The music’s a little unfortunate, but the food definitely makes up for this shortcoming.   However, if you’re allergic to Kenny G, I suggest you bring an iPod or earplugs… is Kenny … more

Mark Bozikovic, accordion

A few years ago my local butcher, Vince Garreffa started up a “mini market” behind his store in Inglewood. As a former Adelaidean, I loved the market culture and missed the Adelaide Central Markets. As a musician, I wondered how I could help Vince keep the momentum of his outdoor produce market going. Vince has created a brilliant little … more

Just found a yoghurt that’s rockin my world just now.  Tangy but not too goaty for those who don’t like that sort of thing (I do but thought it’s worth mentioning.)  Also beautiful texture, like creme caramel, without the caramel.  (honey makes a nice substitute). Some people find goats milk yoghurt easier to digest … more

The Mt Lawley scene just gets better all the time. The Beaufort Street Merchant now also has a small bar license with grazing platters and yummy affordable fare. A little slice of Melbourne starting to emerge in “sleepy ol’ Perth”? Pay them a visit. Their coffee’s brilliant too! The Beaufort Street Merchant 488 – 492 Beaufort … more

Leanne Glover and Matt Styles

Most people would know that this place is almost my second home.  It has created a brilliant central venue for Jazz fans in WA and there's even a cool classical music series called Chamber Jam at the end of each month.  The staff are brilliant, friendly and being so close to the brilliant jazz performers that Perth has in such an intimate … more

Hi Alex, just wanted to fill you in on what's new at Lunch. Lots of fun new features to explore! Seeing as how you love jazz, was wondering who are your favorite musicians? I love listening to Mingus (“Haitian Fight Song”) but maybe you might be interested in a review on music from jazz vocalists by @RickCornell. You can write microreviews on anything you wish (140 characters or less) and create a list on something like favorite jazz musicians. Let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see you around lunch!

No problem, Alex!  Since you're a foodie, I think you'll especially enjoy my French Laundry review.  People seem to like that one the most.  Looking forward to your reviews.  You've got some eclectic interests! :)

eclectic's a nice way of putting it. Borders on chaotic really. But my life's tapestry is pretty rich :).

Glad to have you on Lunch, Alex!  Very neat that you're an orchestral musician.  I absolutely love orchestral music and have been lucky enough to see the San Francisco Symphony quite a number of times.  Based on your profile, I think you'd like these reviews on sushi, dim sum, French Laundry, Chopin, and twitter.  Since you enjoy wine, you might like @CuveeCornerWineBlog's review.  He's a wine expert!  Have fun poking around Lunch, Alex, and just let me know if you have any questions! :)
