Ten Lung Cancer Fighters on Twitter

I am proud to be part of the fight against lung cancer. It takes more lives than any other cancer, totaling more than 160,000 people every year. Amongst this tragedy, a community is forming of survivors and advocates who want to do something about it.  While November is a time where lung cancer research and awareness is focused on, many people man the fronts everyday. After all, we're in the fight for our lives! 

I think a new generation will also form within the lung cancer community very soon. A generation that understands the potential of the countless voices around the world, who seek to join the fight through means of the internet and social media. Below are ten lung cancer advocates that I follow on Twitter for news, events, breakthroughs, announcements and inspiration. Together, they're a great resource for anybody looking for more information. 

Feel free to follow all of them and give them a shoutout! It's time we all know who is who in the lung cancer community. Together with social media - we can really make something happen. :)

I have never met Jennifer before, but I hear her name and website WTFlungcancer.com mentioned frequently when talking to other lung cancer fighters. She works to point out the disparity of lung cancer being the least funded, yet it is the most deadly. She's witty, down to earth and very informative.

The National Lung Cancer Partnership is one of the only lung cancer organizations I've been able to reach out to for support. Their Free to Breathe event is very inspiring and is only one of the many ways they engage survivors, patients, families and advocates. Joe inspired me at the #nlcp10 conference earlier this year in Tampa. He is extremely passionate and is even more positive when talking about lung cancer. He also tweets from @LCINSorg and works to promote the truth that lung cancer is no longer just a smoker's disease.

She presented an awesome session at the @ThePartnership's advocacy summit about how to compete for news coverage. A very genuine person that I hope to run into again in the future. I just met Krupali at the #140conf in Los Angeles just a couple of weeks ago and she was amazing! Among a panel lineup of social media fanatics who works in the industry, Krupali was one of the only speakers who worked outside of the marketing world. She's an oncologist who LOVES her patients. She works not only to help treat and cure cancer, she goes way beyond the call of her job to help patients live out their lives doing extraordinary things. I am so grateful for people like her. This organization was also a frequently mentioned resource when talking with folks in the lung cancer community. While I don't know much about them, they seem to have a great shelf of information. I hope they're able to grow into the social media world more in the near future.

I've just stumbled across Lori's page when looking for folks who actively tweet about the lung cancer fight. Her book "Help Me Live: 20 things people with cancer want you to know" sounds amazing. She's also very active in attending many events dealing with the cancer disease and often shares what she learns and meets on her twitter account.
