Ok, this is my favorite movie so its no wonder that it would be #1. But, the songs stick to you, make you happy when you had a bad day, and if you listen to the lyrics, you have to chuckle.
See the full review, "The beauty of My Fair Lady".
The music for this musical is energetic, flowing and charging. I love it! Also, Bob Fosse (famous choreographer) uses this music to create fascinating dance moves and images that people still mimic today. It makes me want to dance.
The movie is mostly on the list for one song, "Shall we dance?" It has been redone in so many ways but nothing beats this scene, the emotions and relationship behind the dance and how beautifully this score captures it all.
As mentioned by @TeamAWAC everyone had this album when I was growing up. Without thinking about it, these songs make your hips sway with a disco attitude.
I am not one to let the new movies be on the favorite list, any favorite list, until they have weathered some time. However this movie, yes another musical, tickled me from the first time I saw it. I was so happy watching it that I clapped (no kidding) after each song was done. Anything that makes you this happy deserves to be on a favorites list.
I was remiss to not include Star Wars in my original list. The music from that movie is played while watching the movie, while driving or just hanging out at the house. It is a fixture in my home and it makes me smile every time I hear it play because it remind of a boyish love that lives strong today. Thanks @TeamAWAC for reminding me how special it is.
Obviously by this list, one can tell I have a love for the musicals. This movie ALWAYS makes me cry, which makes it lower on my musical list. But, it has fun music like "America" and I love the scores for the Jets and Sharks.
I didn't think about this movie at first, but @TeamAWAC had a good point. It created the mafia theme music in future movies. Well worthy of a place on the list
This movie was played so much growing up that I know where in the movie each song plays. Whenever I hear any part of a song from this movie, I reflect on the scene that plays with it. Particularly the beach volleyball scene-all ladies 30+ know what I'm talking about. ;-)

Oh yes. I do indeed know the volleyball scene in Top Gun. Val Kilmer. Good list!
I'm so glad to find someone who loves movie soundtracks as much as I do. They are usually the only albums I actually listen to all the way through, since they always have a good variety in them.
I think there may been an error in your list... I didn't see Star Wars anywhere. I would have thought by all the repetition, I would have brainwashed you into including it in you list. Great List. I can confirm the "hand clapping" from Happy Feet is accurate.

My apologies. It was late when I wrote this so forgive me if I go astray. But you're right! Will include now.
