A pitch black body laced with pleasantly modest carbonation with good staying power resides underneath a dark tan head that dissipates virtually instantly after the pour. The aromas and the flavours match beautifully - the bitterness of dark, intense chocolate; a tiny hint of coffee, alcohol, moderate, non-cloying sweetness and the slightest hint of something burnt but definitely no smokiness.
AT 10% alcohol/volume with such a strong flavour, this is definitely a "one bottle a night" beer. Brooklyn Brewery suggests serving it in a snifter as a desert beer in pairing with chocolate desserts, cheesecake, fruit tarts, ice cream or as an accompaniment to a strong cheese such as Stilton.
A winter beer, available from October through March only and definitely recommended.
