The Day I Became a Believer in IPAs

When I look at a beer list, I usually skip right over anything with the letters IPA attached to it. Each time I've experimented with one, it would validate my hypothesis that "I don't like IPAs." I expected the same outcome when a friend brought the Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA to a dinner party last night, but this was no ordinary IPA. I really liked it!

I'm not a beer expert. I can't tell you what subtle flavors I detected. I just know that it paired ridiculously well with my burger. The combination of this IPA and the red onions was like chocolate and peanut butter or dark chocolate and port. (Most of the best combinations involve chocolate.)

It was a crowd pleaser, too. I think everyone enjoyed what they had before it was too quickly gone.

Firestone Walker is more commonly known for its Double Barrel Ale, but if you see this one on the shelf, give it a try. I'm pretty sure you'll only find it in California right now.

If you're in Central California, you can probably stop by the breweries in Buellton or Paso Robles for a taste:

Sounds delicious. I've never heard of it before. If you're starting to experiment with beer, you might also be interested in @drifter51's review of Sam Adams. Cheers!
