Among the blandest beers I've tried.

As of late I drifted towards being the casual drinker. However, there was a time when I sat down and splurged on various types and during then, I have come across several beers that would go on to be favorites, and some would go on to being the most hated. No beer in existence would fit in the latter category better than the green bottled lager. Up to this day, I haven't come across a single one that I can say I like, with the most well known of the bunch Heineken being at the top of the list. It still amazes me how some of my friends enjoy this watered down and poor tasting beer.

Coming out of Holland, in a rather stocky looking bottle with a somewhat rough pour. Heineken suffers from some bad skunking due to the green bottle. I never dug the smell of this beer, and even in clubs, you can almost always tell when someone has been drinking this. When poured into a pint glass, the body has a golden look with heavy carbonation, and it has a white head that fizzles out rather quickly. I noticed that it would be gone before I get anywhere near the middle portion of the glass.

I enjoyed many foreign beers, since plenty of the ones I tried had a creamy or rich like taste. Heineken tastes too watered down. There's a grainy, yeast like taste that lends it a rather bitter taste I would say, that isn't the least bit enjoyable with an even worse after taste. I have tried to enjoy this beer on solo romps, and even with meals such as lasagna, ravioli, and even BBQ chicken, it's hard for me to enjoy.

To its credit, with the 0.5% alcohol volume, Heineken is good for social gatherings because it takes several to get you hammered. I would normally go through about 5 before I start feeling any type of buzz. I also give the beer an extra point, because it does taste a little better from the can.

In closing, the Heineken company may be responsible for one of the beers I do not enjoy. However, I do enjoy the Dark Heineken, and I remember really loving Tarwebok. But this particular beer  is not something that I would choose to drink. I would only be bothered if it's offered to me. Now, if I had to choose between this and Bud products, then give me a Heineken right away.

Pros:
- Great for get togethers

Cons:
- Watered down, and annoying after taste

Blech. Yeah, I've never much cared for Heineken, either.

yeah, I go for the dark bottled beers more than anything else.

I am thirsty. But I like Rolling Rock and rich beers better.

You tried the Dark Heineken? It's much better.
April 12, 2012
Nope. I usually go for Rasputins and one other one that is almost like a liquor.

Grotsch's?

Never had those two, and I doubt it's in my area. I would have to go downtown for that.

Geat Dutch beer. However, consider the fact that my favorite beer is free beer, and my all time favorite beer is, cold free beer!!!

While I really enjoy microbrews Heineken is a great alternative to the heaviness of the Hef's in the marketplace.   It is light and crisp with a bit of a kick ( like me). It comes in many varieties including bottled, canned, kegged and even those big ole bottles you take to parties!   It gives a nice foam, holds its carbonation and overall makes me happy!

I lived in the Netherlands for a month this past summer, and it was amazing.  Draft Heineken was only 2 euros, and it was delicious.  In the Netherlands they view Heineken as a cheap beer, but it's great.  It has a smooth taste that I enjoy.  This is definitely a staple beer to have in your fridge, though it's much better on tap (then again, what beer isn't?).
