Poleeko Gold Pale Ale -- The bottle don't lie, the review don't lie either

  • Feb 23, 2011

How does it look? How's the color? Clarity? Head?

  • Clear, light amber

How's the nose (smell)? Sweet, spicy, fruity?

  • A bit of malty sweetness, but there is a significant perfume quality to it (more on that in a sec)

How does it taste? Malty? Hoppy? Fruity? Chalky?

  • Dry, a wheat-like sweetness, bit of a perfume, and a pretty solid hoppy finish

Is it full-bodied? Medium bodied? Weak? Clean?

  • I'll have to call it medium because of the flavor complexity.  It actually feels like a clean light beer, but that is deceiving.

Where did you buy it? How much was it?

  • Birmingham AL, $11 six pack bottles

What do you think overall? Would you buy it again?

  • The bottle says that the beer "is crisp and clear with an unusual lightness and dryness for such a full flavored beverage.  A generous addition of Pacific Northwest hops adds both a floral bouquet and slightly bitter, lively finish."  All of that is true with some minor adjustments.  The sweetness isn't mentioned on the label but is definitely in the bottle.  And, the bitter is not slight and does not finish quickly--but to me those are huge pluses.  But if you are not a fan of hops, then the finish may be a bit strong.  All the same though, it is worth the cost and I'll have it in my fridge again.

I like it sweet but not bitter. Although it's interesting how you describe it. Clearly I'm no beer drinker but I like to try new taste. Never heard of this one though. Thanks for the tip!

I name and describe everything and classify most things. If 'it' already had a name, the one I just gave it is better.
