Magnificent Mile
It doesn't say a whole lot of good when a place tries to use shopping to advertise itself. It's perfectly understandable if, say, you don't have access to the variety or items you need and there's a big mall 90 minutes down the road; Buffalo and Toronto claim to hate each other, but the two cities - which are in different countries - have a very balanced relationship which is like that. But would …

Pizza Cuz: Champs or Chumps?
Here is an unbiased review the pizza show, Pizza Cuz.   Pizza Cuz is a show on the Cooking channel featuring Cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basile. Sal and Francis grew up on Staten Island during the time when this remote borough of New York was very much the outskirts of the city. And during the course of the show you are given flashback and insights into how things were for the …

Yes, Chef
I think it is a common issue in our culture to feel like we know someone from watching them on television. I have seen Chef Marcus Samuelsson many times on TV, including Top Chef Masters, Top Chef and Chopped. I knew that he was Ethiopian born and Swedish raised, and that he is an incredible chef who gained notoriety and status as a chef and restauranteur very early in life, but clearly I only know …

My mom and I won a raffle at the ACHA (Adults with Congenital Heart Defects Association) conference last April. The original win was for a condo in Colorado but, as we're not ski/snow/cold people, we swapped it for a luxurious suite at the Coronado Beach Resort instead! My friend Annie and I went up on Sunday the 19th to check in ~ Steffie joined me on Tuesday and Mom on Wednesday. It …

Celestino Ristorante & Bar
Italian cuisine was my first food love and Celestino brought all of my warm, fuzzy memories of delicious Italian meals to the foreground of my brain, making me fall in love with Italian food all over again.      Celestino had been in my peripherals for the better part of fifteen years and now that I have sampled its fare I cannot ever imagine my life without them. I had been thinking, …

Isla
I went to this place sometime after New Year's day. I figured that it was worth a try since it had gotten good reviews from Yelp, Adobo Nation and was "Kagat Approved" (means worth biting into).   http://www.myislarestaurant.com/      I really wasn't sure what to expect, I've been disappointed with a lot of Filipino restaurants and I wondered …

Zelda's Corner
Great sandwiches, nice people and very affordable. They also have very good treats such as homemade cookies and mini donuts that they make while you wait. They're addictive. You can order online through their website or even through their Facebook page.

The Fat Cat Cafe
I love food.  I really love food served in large portions.  I've visited very few restaurants and/or homes that can make a meal so big that I have to ask for a "to go" box.  One of the few places that makes that short list is The Fat Cat Cafe in downtown Lake Charles, LA.       I've only recently discovered this gem in the Lake Area.  …

NOSH in DALLAS
I must be one of the coupon Queens because that is the way I try new, trendy restaurants to see if they are worth actually spending full price on. I purchased a Living Social Voucher for Nosh. I decided this would be a good time to take our supervisor for a Christmas Lunch. My co-worker, Oscar, and I took her to Nosh for lunch yesterday. I have to say first of all, that I did have the Living Social …

Modern Apizza, Pepe's, and Sally's Apizza Blind Taste Test
The Reddecliffs report exclusively for Pizza Therapy:    I grew up in New Haven, (Connecticut) and thought that the whole world hade pizza like we did.      When I moved away, I was shocked that no one could come close!       I went home to New Haven for this Thanksgiving.      My husband and I decided that in order to finally …

Small, Authentic Mexican American Restaurant
This little restaurant is right off the freeway, but not noticeable if you take the frontage road. The location has been many different types of restaurants, but hope this one stays. It is next to Tri Cities liquor. It is a small restaurant, probably around 7 square tables that seat 4. It is set up like a fast food restaurant where you go to the counter place your food order and sit down. They even …

Madame Tam Bistro
Disclaimer: I've never had Vietnamese food before so I can't say I'm an expert. That being said, Fernando and I happened into Madame Tam's for Happy Hour on Tuesday and we loved every delicious minute of it. Their Tiki bar, where we dined, just opened two months ago to compliment or help the crowded Bistro next door. This is a review for the bar. Here's the lowdown:   …

Jimmy's quick lunch
Not quite how I remember when I was younger and was living in the area. There was hardly any chili or onions on the hot dogs and were basically thrown together. When I was in my teens, I worked at Coney Island hot dogs in Hazleton and in my opinion, their hot dogs were by far better. Well from what I remember ;)

Taco Diner
First, on a positive note...the service was not bad considering there were 13 of us at the table. Other than that, I am not even sure what to say about this place they call a restaurant. Wow. I have eaten in thousands of restaurants from the east coast to the west coast and in between and have never been to a more flavorless restaurant than this one. I ordered the fish tacos (I love fish tacos) on …

Piranha Killer sushi
Purchased a groupon to this restaurant in Flower Mound. My husband and I were in the area so we thought we would stop in and use the groupon, plus we love sushi! The restaurant decor provided a warm atmosphere. Service wasn't rushed and the waitress was very accommodating. They had a patio which is definitely a plus for me stopping anywhere!     We started off with the crab cakes …

All I have to say is GO! This place has one of the top two burgers in the metroplex! The owner is friendly and drinks cold. If you love burgers, you will love this place!

The Dali Museum
Florida and Dali?  I never would've thought to put the two together.  When I think of the Tampa Bay Area, it doesn't exactly conjure up thoughts of Spanish surrealism.      I've been to the Tampa Bay Area many times over the past few years, counting it as my second home, but had never felt particularly compelled to visit The Dali Museum, mostly because I didn't …

Mitzi's Sister
It's my goal to get through all of my Toronto eats before the end of the year, so at least I can say it only took me 6 or so months. Ha. Anyway. Both Mitzi's Cafe and Mitzi's Sister was talked up greatly by Zuzu, who was very eager to make sure I got to try out everything she knew I'd enjoy. Wasting no time to whisk me off to their local favorites, G & …

I’m not afraid to eat alone. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I’m always amazed to find that many people do not, cannot, will not venture out on their own, especially to restaurants, for fear of being pegged as lonely or without friends. For me, this is a foreign insecurity; I don’t give a shit what other diners think of me. I’m too busy eating. …

Plate 38
I think it’s difficult to review a place that doesn’t WOW you or make you filled with rage. It’s the eateries that hit the mark of just above mediocre, that B average student that tends to fall by the wayside for me. Such a place is Plate 38 – a clean, casual Pasadena joint that serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner. Between its wannabe hip menu …
