While e-books have been around for quite some time, e-papers (aka digital newspapers) have not has as much following as e-books. Right or wrong? You see, until I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab (from hereon referred to as the Tab), I’ve not even heard about e-papers let alone the idea of having newspapers downloaded to read on my Tab (the paper version of the newspapers, not the website/online version) as soon as they are off the press. Yes, now, I can read them on the Tab (or the iPad if you prefer) wherever I’m and papers from more than 50 countries in the world! Life is awesome, isn’t it?
How do we do it? Well, this is not about those apps that we download like the Zinio or Kobo apps on the magazines and books. Instead, if you’re lucky like I’m, you will be able to just do it through the PC or on your tablets. The website? PressDisplay.com.
I got it totally free, all the papers listed in PressDisplay.com. How? Because my public library membership allows me to do so. I can log on using my library ID and there I’ve all of them literally with a click! This may varies depending on your library. Try looking for it under eResources. Otherwise, you can try the service on PressDisplay.com which entails reading 2 articles for free in every issue in any single day. For my Tab, I was given some 8 newspapers download for free. Thereafter, I’d have to pay using the Press Display apps. So far, I haven’t found it necessary to pay since I can read my papers via my library account.
I must admit I love reading my papers digitally. That’s one way of going green and another advantage is I won’t stain my fingertips with black inks from the papers! Press Display also allows members to download and read offline. For those interested in subscribing to the plans, click here. There are Pay As You Go (US$0.99), Personal, Corporate and Professional plans (US$199.50). Prices range from $0.99 to less than US$200.
Papers from these countries are available:
You see, now we have so much info at our fingertips that if we are not careful we run out of the time to sleep! For those in international trade and MNC, life has never been so good and so easy. The beauty of these newspapers is that it allows you to research for best prices globally and even what’s on sale in each city! That’s just simply unthinkable a decade ago!
What I love about Press Display is that now I can read The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and all the newspapers I care to read for free! I know, I have to thank my library for that. However, if you don’t have that access, you still can get them for a mere $1 each! That’s not a bad deal, is it?!
As with the e-books and e-magazines, you can download the e-papers and read them on the go. Life can’t be better, can it?
