When East meets West

Robin Li spent his undergraduate years in Peking University & then went on to SUNY  Buffalo (State University of New York) for his Master Degree in information technology. After his graduation in 1994, he worked for Dow Jones & Company & was involved in the develpment of a software on the online edition of Wall Street Journal. He is also the initiator of ESP technology (although what exactly is that, I've no clue!).

After a few-year stint in the U.S., he went back to China in the hopes of changing the Chinese people's life with technology. In end 1999, he took home with him seed money from investors & founded Baidu with Eric Xu. In August 2005, Baidu was listed on NASDAQ at issue price of US$27 per share but traded to a high of US$122!!! On that same day, his net worth was recorded at almost US$1 billion at the mere age of 37! Robin Li was borned on the same year as Yahoo's founder Jerry Yang, in the year of monkey, aka 1968! They began their career as techie and made major contributions to their field of expertise. Robin now spends most of his time involving himself in the management of the company rather than programming but is still very much involved in the monitoring of Baidu's users' experience. I like the fact that even as a search engine company, Baidu is dedicated to refine and improve users' interface and experience. That to me is the most important part of an online site. According to Robin's interview with CBN (China Business News), he's in it for the long haul. He is dedicated to making Baidu THE search engine in China. Robin now overseas more than 7000 employees in Baidu, a 10 fold increament since Baidu's public listing in 2005. That signals how fast-paced the growth is in this company & internet activities in China! Bravo to Robin Li for having made a difference!
