I’ve owned this crazy large piece of poop scooping machinery for a few months now and although there are definitely a few small design flaws, it’s been pretty amazing to me.
As of a week ago I had one major complaint – only one of my cats would use it…
The other would run past it in terror as it witnessed a giant plastic monster groaning and spinning in circles. But not anymore! I was pleasantly surprised after returning from a vacation to hear that Max had begun using the litter robot. I’ll never know how or why he conquered his fear, but he did. Maybe he hoped his mom would return from Hawaii if he was finally a good boy and began using it? I’ll go with that ;)
Here’s a bit about how it works and why I love it:
After ditching my share of worn out, stinky litter boxes month after month, I decided it was time for a change. I was in heaven when I discovered the Litter Robot, a magical litter cleaning genie monster worth every penny of $294.99
The littler robot moves sort of like a spinning dryer when it’s in action. Once a cat hops in to do his business, the sensor detects that he’s inside. After kitty exits, it waits about 7 minutes or so to spin, separating the good litter (must use clumping litter!) from the used, and trashing the used into a bottom panel that opens up while the machine is revolving. The robot is extremely efficient when it comes to saving the good litter and I’ve already saved a ton of $.
If you’re worried about your cat being freaked out by the spinning object –set it in off mode for the first few days while the cat gets used to going inside. Once he's away, you can then hit the cycle button on your own to eliminate any treasures he left behind.

The only manual requirement is to dump the used litter filled bag at the bottom once a week. Conveniently, just about any plastic shopping bag can be used to catch the litter. The robot also recommends cleaning the machine every month or so, but with a quick wipe down every now and then, it stays really clean.
Although near perfection, these are the only downfalls…
For how gigantic the entire machine is – the actual litter box hole for the cats to go in is smaller than I’d hoped. I have two 12 pound kitties and peaking at them inside, it often looks like they are ducking and squatting a little awkward to fit. Since they can’t talk, I don’t know how uncomfortable it really is – but couldn’t imagine a cat much bigger using it.
And then there’s the smell (which is inevitable with any litter box). The litter robot has little holes on the step stool to attempt catching any litter that falls out when kitty leaves. Unfortunately, these little holes lead down to the litter pan letting just a little bit of stink escape. I’ve combated this by placing it next to a two way window fan set to send the not so perfect air out of my bathroom, works like a charm!
Overall, it's wonderful purchase. Although a little costly at first, it's COMPLETELY worth the $ it’ll continue to save me on litter and most importantly, the time and happiness it’s saved me from not having to scoop poop! Plus, all your kitty sitters will love you for it.
And if you're kitties aren't into it - the company offers a generous 60 day money back return policy!
