Hideo Kojima has made some really great games. His most famous work being the Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater were great games on their own. Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection contains the original Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation One, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for the PlayStation 2. Substance and Subsistence were nothing more than their original versions, but with extra modes and unlockables. The Essential Collection comes in a box that holds the games. The games have special cases to commemorate the collection. Anyway, I the problem I find for the games are kind of minor flaws, but are important enough to make you want to purchase the games again separately. The first problem that I found was that Metal Gear Solid 3: subsistence did not come with discs 2 and 3. From what I have heard Disc 2 contains part of the actual game, whereas disc 3 contains the extra modes and unlockables (special features). Apparently Kojima stated that the extras weren't necessary so discs 2 and 3 were scrapped. You need the second disk to finish the game. But no, you have to buy an actual copy of Subsistence just to have them. It is if to say "Screw you, you have to spend more money now, go screw yourself!" It is a burden fans of the series shouldn't have. Lastly, I found that Subsistence froze at the part where Snake has to escape on motorcycle with Eva. It might be a manufacturing error with my disc though. I bought the collection new at a Wal-Mart, so scratches were not the cause of the freezing.
Didn't come with all the discs for Subsistence
Subsistence has possible manufacturing error that causes it to freeze
Getting the games together really doesn't change much
You can actually play the first two games with no problem
I give Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection a 2 out of 5.
