In 1999 the Italian Opera singer Cecilia Bartoli published the CD the Vivaldi Album which contains arias from the operas of the Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi ( 1678 - 1741) and that album is one of many reasons for the revival of the operas of Vivaldi today.
His music was very popular in his lifetime but was almost forgotten until about the mid 20th century or there about. His operas have been largely neglected until the past fifteen years or so.
In 2000 the DVD, Viva Vivaldi was published and it contains a live performance of Opera arias by Vivaldi recorded in the Theatre des Champs -Élysées in Paris.
Bartoli is unusual among the opera stars of today in that she is also a bit of a music scholar and has been studying many of the old manuscripts of Vivaldi, looking for interesting arias by this baroque Master and on both the CD the Vivaldi Album and on the DVD, Viva Vivaldi we find a lot of treasures.
Performing with Bartoli is the wonderful early music ensemble Il Giardino Armonico.
Bartoli´s Performance here is mindblowing, she has a fantastic vocal pyrotechnique and she delivers every aria with so much power and energy that it´s simply thrilling to watch and she is so animated and totally engaged in what´s she´s doing.
These arias are Great music, full of colour and energy ranging from powerful joy to sorrowful laments and the melodies are so well constructed.
This is my favorite DVD of Opera arias and one of the best classical performance I have ever seen, so I can highly recommend it.
Hi. This music is lovely and I intend to buy this CD. Thanks for posting this....

The label naive (http://en.naive.fr/) is in the process of recording all the Vivaldi manuscripts found in the Biblioteca Nazionale in Turin and this will probably be about 200 cd´s. They have published a wonderful cd with a collection of Vivaldis arias and it is simply called Vivaldi Edition: Operas and it is available from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Vivaldi-Operas-Sergio-...c&qid=1244131937&sr=8-2)
