Hooked on Strauss Waltzes

  • Sep 11, 2009
When I was just a child we drove about 3 hours to get to the famous Lake Toba. On the winding road it was Johann Strauss waltz which was played in the car repeatedly and every single piece on that cassette was a familiar reminder of my childhood weekends and the beautiful lake. That cassette was that of Mantovani & his orchestra.

I managed to find some videos from YouTube with music by Mantovani but the sound quality isn't good. I do still have Mantovani's music in my iPod which is a lot better. However, for the purpose of this review, I'm going to include the famous Blue Danube, Johann Strauss' best piece of music. I found a video by another orchestra which is equally good (although due to my first exposure, I still very much like Mantovani's version).

Other delightful waltz by Johann Strauss are:
  • Tales from the Vienna Woods
  • Voices of Spring
  • Emperor Waltz
  • Roses from the South

Johann Strauss Junior remains my most favorite classical musician.
