The purpose of brewing with this kind of brewer is to make coffee without the use of hot water. The resulting product is smooth low acid coffee.
But wait! There is a catch!
This takes 24 hours to brew! Yes, really that long! You have to mix the coffee grounds with cold water and leave it sitting overnight. In the morning you pull the rubber stopper and let the coffee drain through the provided filer.
The result is a large batch of concentrated coffee - enough to make coffee for a week (depending on how much you drink coffee!)
Once you have the bottle of concentrated coffee you store it in your refrigerator and just add about 1/3 cup of this coffee to 2/3 cup of hot water (kind of like making an Americano).
The coffee is very very smooth! I recommend using the coffee concentrate up over the course of a few days, as the longer it stays in your refrigerator, the less tasty the coffee.
Find an obsessed coffee friend who has one of these and try a cup before purchasing the coffee maker. I have one and only use the coffee maker a few times a year at most.
What did you think of this review?
Using your favorite brand of coffee, cold-brewing the ground beans produces a coffee that is naturally low in acid--approximately 67 percent less acidic than coffee brewed by conventional hot-brew methods such as a Mr. Coffee-type system. The super-smooth coffee concentrate that may be refrigerated for up to 14 days without any deterioration in taste or freshness. And, there's no waste. Cold-brewed coffee can be made one cup at a time, and at the strength you prefer, simply by adding steaming hot or iced cold water or milk. It's also microwavable.
