six adventurers met to form the Order of the Stick, because Roy's father had appeared to him and told him he had to confront Xykon (an evil lich)., and Roy was seeking a party to help him accomplish this quest. At least that's where we see the party when the online comics starts, in the dungeon of Dorukan, making their way down to fight the lich. But how have they come there, to the dungeon, and to their quest? What brought them into that particular tavern , in that particular day and time? Why did they accept Roy's proposition when so many adventurer's had refused?

And by the way, this material is print only. Rich said that it will never go print. Its not crucial to the plot, its a side story, but its a GOOD side story.

Ever wondered why Haley quit the Rogue"s guild, when she was making insane amounts of profit? (hint: she does not) Why Durkon, who is so loyal to Thor, would ever leave Dwarwen homelands? Elan is as funny and naive as ever, but why was he ever in that tavern (and how did he survive till then?) V never strikes you as an adventurer, but why is he/she out on the road? Belkar, on the other hand, just wants to kill people- but why would Roy, as a lawful good character, accept Belkar who is obviously evil to his party?

The book is a glimpse to the past lives of the characters. Some get more screen time than others, but each character has a different history, and some can be explained with less effort. But we get a lot of humor, some idea what the world of Oots is about, and some background. Its nothing crucial, but if you loved Oots, you will love this book too. It may not be that accessible to a non-gamer, but I think the story does hold up.
