No, actually they got an HP-513N tower, MX70 monitor, HP-732 color printer, HP-4100 scanner, my optical mouse, my new keyboard, and yes, even my friggin mouse pad. Man I loved that mouse pad! Yep, I lost it all, thanks to some low-life druggies that decided my goods would bring in a pretty penny on the market. So much for my free vacation to San Francisco, looks like it cost a lot more than a vacation ever could.
I was beside myself, how would I ever get on Epinions again? I had just bought that dang computer, I hadnt even finished writing on the goods yet and now they are gone. Even more devastating was the fact that I feared my web page, dedicated to suicide survivors, would be wiped out. The last backup I had for my computer was months old. Yes, I know that is stupid, but at least that wont happen again.
So I packed up the one suitcase of clothes I had left, the lamp they left me along with the recliner that they obviously thought was too heavy to carry, and I moved to North Carolina. Imagine my surprise when I arrived and discovered that ChildRN, son of SurgRN, had purchased a new computer for me, bag and baggage, and had already set it up with DSL and router. Uh huh, thats right, Im bad.
This unit is backed by Hewlett Packard, a computer Im familiar with. Learning the ends and outs of this new system didnt take long and it came with a Microsoft Works package built in and an optional WordPerfect package that you can purchase after a 6-month trial. Ill stick with the MS Works, its already free, although I do love that WordPerfect.
Ill be the first to admit I know nothing about the workings of a computer, but I have been fully satisfied with this system. The monitor is a flat screen type, that is, the screen is flat and not rounded out like other screens. It isnt one of the actual flat screen monitors that are sold today.
The sound system is quite ample with decent clarity and balance. I have used the CD writer to make several CDs and find the loading time is excellent, although I have nothing to compare it with in the past. The options for the music catalog are wonderful, a feature I never utilized on my last computer, with quick download into your computer and transfer to your personal CD. The speakers can be sound and balance adjusted through your computer audio properties or on the speakers themselves.
Graphics are clear and equal with no distortion in transfer. I havent located a photo enhancement feature on this computer as yet, but I had software from my old computer and installed that.
The speed on this system is exceptional although it may be enhanced by my DSL feature. I did not use the computer without DSL so I am not aware of any slow access or page load. Storage is quite ample, even with the myriad of graphics and so forth I have stored for web pages. It hasnt seemed to slow the operation one bit.
The tower seems smaller than previous computers and I like the compact size. Im a floor tower person and find this takes no leg area away at all under the desk. The front loading ports for expansion are really nice, including the front loading USB & audio ports. I always hated crawling around on the floor before to hook a camera or so forth up to the rear ports.
From my experience I would consider this a nice computer for home office, personal use, or to send away to your college student for their dorm room, especially with the word processing system already built in for those term papers.
Thanks, Susi

Explore your digital world with the Compaq S4010om. A 2.4GHz Celeron processor, paired with 128MB of system memory, provides plenty of power for applications. Compaqs CD-Writer CD-RW drive lets you burn your own CDs. With 40GB of hard drive space, needing extra space is a problem of the past.
