Large Monitor Bargain

  • Mar 28, 2011
My company purchased five iH-282 I-INC monitors from a 3rd party vendor recently for about $250.00 each. Man am I impressed! I'd never heard of I-INC and my expectations were fairly low. First off, the price point is amazing. These are "budget" monitors but are of a higher quality than many I've seen. Only one of them had a stuck green pixel near a corner - nothing that warrants returning it. We use the VGA connectors and the screen is bright, sharp and clear. No blur with text, no wavering of the image. The 2 HDMI ports are nice to have, but won't see any use at my place of business, at least for the time being. Color looks good (after some tweaking) and the 1920x1200 resolution is plenty of real estate for working on documents and for photo editing. The viewing angle is good, but The matte black bezel and base isn't as classy as those on some big-ticket monitors, but it looks functional and doesn't have a distracting gloss finish. The 20˚ tilt is enough adjustment for most situations, but there is no swivel.

The stand is a little wobbly but if you aren't in a situation where you need to adjust it often or bump it, then it's no big deal. The monitor is surprisingly light for it's size at around 17 pounds so this may contribute to that. The speakers are weak and tinny but we're not using the iH-282s for watching videos, listening to music or playing games. External speakers would be a must in that case but for casual work use and internet surfing, they suffice. My old 23" Apple Cinema Display (yep-it's still working) is the same pixel resolution and while it may be subjective, it seems to have a more nuanced and less contrasty screen than the IH282's. Still, those 5 extra inches make a big difference and images are easier to see and text is easier to read.

I have a 2008 24" iMac at home. I used to think I'd never want to go larger than that for a computer monitor, but the low cost and decent quality of the 28" iH-282 has made me rethink that. I recommend it for general computer use and image editing. It may not be the ideal monitor for high-end work where color accuracy needs to be perfect or for watching a lot of video, but for everything else, it looks to be a winner. I can't speak to durability or longevity, but there is a one-year warranty and if they last a year or two, I'd say it was money well spent.
