The SNES has got to be my favorite system. It was back when games were games, where you got a little realism but not too much and it was FUN. It had a few masterpieces on it and here are my favorite 5.
It started Mario's second official and major game series where you can go it alone or a friend and race around the Mushroom Kingdom. Turtle Shells and Star Man are your weapons, Cape Feathers and Mushrooms are your tools. A blast that some people consider being better then the later and spiffier games.
Build a city, set taxes, solve problems like pollution or if you get fed up, you can knock your city down with floods and earthquakes. Nice and fun little game.
Back in it's humbler roots Final Fantasy was starting to show it's soap opera and wishy washy characters that would mar the later sequels but here it was still kept down and still a fun game. Take your hero Cecil around the world, under it and beyond to save the crystals that will be perverted to serve evil.
Link's 16 bit treatment was the only time Link made the jump onto the SNES but what a quest it was. Help Link save the royal bloodline of Hyrule before it's too late and travel between Hyrule and the now twisted Golden Land to vanquish the Wizard Agahnim and his evil.
Platforming with monkey's turned out to be a blast, a very tough blast as it would prove as you take Diddy and Dixie to rescue Donkey from Crocodile Isle. Ramped up the already impressive graphics and sounds from the previous game and improved the gameplay considerably. A fun game to be sure, but also a challenging one.
I can't just pick 5... in no particular order.....FF IV, FF6, Turtles in Time, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Super Mario World, DKC1 and 2, Zelda, street fighter 2 turbo, Nigel Mansell''s world cup racing, nba jam TE, Mario Paint, Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, arg, too many more to put!
And what do you think about Megaman X, Star Fox, Mortal Kombat, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Spiderman: Maximum Carnage, Killer Instict, Bomberman, Final Fight. And the list continue, THANK YOU SNES!!

Pretty Good, Good, flawed and censored, Awesome, repetitive, nice port, never played it, and a flawed port.
I love how everyone's chiming in about how you forgot certain titles when it's clearly labeled as your personal top 5. Even so though, the presence of Sim City disturbs me. Mine would look something like this 1.Chrono Trigger 2. Super Metroid 3. Street Fighter (Turbo, Alpha... all of 'em really) 4. Super Mario World 5. Super Mario RPG (Legend of the Seven Stars)

It was the third game I owned, my sister introduced me to the game and I made it a personal quest to get the highest population that I could and no matter how many times I played it, it was always fun and always a challenge to try new things. Thank you for understanding that this is MY personal list cause it would look just like any other list for SNES games out there if it wasn't. The games everyone else mentioned ARE good just that these are my favorites.
This list clearly labels you as a NERD. Aside from Zelda and maybe Mario Kart, people who played these titles are now playing World of Warcraft.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. But there IS something wrong with not listing Super Metroid

Well, I'm NOT playing WOW and I never have. I like Super Metroid but it's not in my top 5. I can always make another list since I do like other SNES games. Out of curiosity though, what about DKC2 makes me a nerd for playing? It's a good game.
Nice list, I agree with all of them except I would put FF3 in place of FF2. And to those claiming that chrono trigger belongs on the list .. it was good, but its got nothing on final fantasy, never has and never will.

It was hard to choose between them, but if I started putting FF2, FF3, Chrono ETC it becomes the favorite RPG list. I only wanted 1 FF game and 2 is the one I have more fond memories of playing but yeah, 3 IS great.
