More of my favorite SNES games

  • Oct 8, 2010

Well, heres another list of SNES games that I like. I can't post a "best" list since it would look like almost any other list out there for the SNES-though there will be similarities as you will see right away. Please keep in mind when reading that these are MY choices for favorite SNES games and not necessarily what are considered to be THE best SNES games.

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER
1

Some would say THE best game of the SNES era (released as Final Fantasy III) provided many characters and much more depth to the gameplay with more weapons, items, armors, magic spells, locations to collect for a great game experience.

2
Taking what made the first Metroid good (cool weapons and exploration and monsters to blow up) and getting rid of the bad (LONG vertical shafts of nothing and hard to find powerups) and expanding it greatly. I played through it so many times that the game kinda fell to the wayside for me but it is a great game.

See the full review, "Eat hot plasma you slimy suckers".
3
Doom (SNES)
The graphics lacked depth, the sprites were choppy, the screen size was small and some levels were missing but when you don't have a PC and Doom was the rage, this game wasn't that bad, in fact it was kinda fun.

See the full review, "Those demons bled mud".
5
Super Empire Strikes Back (Snes/Wii) Review
Increased challenge, better graphics and music and based on the best original Star Wars movie helped make this game great. All three of the Star Wars SNES games were good but this was the best.

6
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV Turtles In Time
Some would argue that this was BETTER then the arcade game it was based on with better bosses and more levels, while some will say the Arcade version played smoother and had more voices. Either version is good and it's arguabbly one of the best classic Turtle's games made.

See the full review, "Lets take a trip back to the early 90s".
8
Wing Commander (SNES)
Much like Doom on the SNES, it had it's issues but again, when you don't have a computer it'll do in a pinch and it could have been far, far worse. Great graphics and music, but the music loops really easily and can get grating

9
Chrono Trigger
YES, HERE IT IS. I didn't play this one so much so I don't have the most fondest memories of it. Seeing it again I remembered that when I DID play it, it was a very good game just not one I played enough of to have the same attachment others do.

10
Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
I like Dracula's Curse on the NES a little bit more with it's branching paths and new characters but the game much like Super Mario World does make up for this with new techniques for Simon and some very impressive production.

Final Fantasy VI is unquestionably my favorite Final Fantasy! This list kicks ass. It's also nice to find someone who actually played Wing Commander!

Oh yeah. My brother got me into Wing Commander, a friend of mine had the sequel on the PC and it went from there.
