Way back in the infancy of post-crash video gaming, the old warriors and wizards motif meant only a few things: A typical hack abd slash adventure game or an RPG. Then Golden Axe came along. I'm very hard-pressed to say Golden Axe changed video games. It really didn't. But it changed our perceptions of what kinds of characters and settings could be used for certain kinds of video games. Double Dragon with swords. That was what I thought when I frst played this back in the 80's. Featuring three different characters with their magic attacks along with strengths and weaknesses, Golden Axe did bring some innovation to the side scrolling beat'em genre. But I don't exactly remember how well it holds up now. I have to revisit this from a more critical eye.
