Let THE EX-BATTLES Begin in This Zany, Bizarre, Action-Packed Romantic Comedy!
We’ve all had nightmares about our girlfriend’s ex-boyfriends; some make us feel insecure, some make us feel proud while some…well, makes us forget about the whole thing. But hopefully, none of us have experienced being assaulted by the hordes of ex-boyfriends of the person we are dating. Well, those who are familiar with the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley may still have a hard time preparing for the film adaptation “SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD”. …

After 16 years of slamming Hollywood studios for never getting our video game movies right, we finally have one that gets it exactly right. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a video game movie, even though it doesn't have a basis in any actual video games.     Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is more of a visual and cultural tribute to video games than anything. Every other element of the movie, including the plot, takes a backseat to the list of power bars, status updates, and special …

In terms of actors today, Michael Cera is kind of overrated. He plays the same character in every single movie he's in: the awkward, geeky teen who's either anxious to lose his virginity or just be generally geeky. That doesn't mean that every once in a while, he can turn in a good performance, and Scott Pilgrim is definitely one of them. This is an incredibly awesome movie, and epic of epic epicness indeed. It's also kind of hard to put into words unless the person you're talking …

This movie grabs your attention from the display of the Universal Logo.  The Universal theme music is like  the sound of an old video game.   Scott Pilgrim seems to drift from dream to reality and the scenes rapidly shift with written text to explain who the various characters are.       Scott is in a band with an ex-girlfriend and two other friends.  He lets them know that he is dating Knives, a 17 year old Chinese girl.  Everybody seems against …

Scott Pilgrim Saved my World
SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD   Written by Michael Baccall and Edgar Wright   Directed by Edgar Wright   Starring Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick and Mary Elizabeth Winstead      Stacey Pilgrim: Are you legitimately moving on or are you just being insane?   Scott Pilgrim: Can I get back to you on that?      By the time you reach a certain age, if you’ve tried at all to make connections with other human …

Just imagine for a second that your life is a video game.  One where the potential exist for you to beat up bad guys, live each new day of your life as though it were a level where you score points, get extra lives and pull off amazing stunts because you simply can.  This is exactly what Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is.  A movie that turns the life of one young man into a video game.  It's zany, it's over-the-top but it's a lot of fun.  If you don't like Scott …

Scott Pilgrim ROCKED my 8-bit world!
I heard about the Scott Pilgrim movie about 2ish years ago and my response was: No... no way.  How can they even begin to capture the pure epic awesomeness of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic book series Scott Pilgrim compressed into one movie?  It can't be done.  Wait?...  What is this you say ... Michael Cera's going to play Scott Pilgrim?  The cutie pie guy that fans the flames for geek girls everywhere?  Well that changes everything.      …

Spoiler-Free Sneak Preview: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
One of my projects is watching Rotten Tomatoes' list of the worst movies of the last decade and, in doing so, I've pontificated at length on the misery that is movies based on video games. To recap: there are a bunch on the list, many are directed by Uwe Boll (perhaps the worst director of all time), the most critically-acclaimed video game movie ever is the not-so-great Mortal Kombat. Video game movies usually take themselves too seriously and fail by having to stick to story lines that …

Action, Romance, Comedy and filled with homage for all the things we love; this film is just a rockin’ good time! This stands as one of my favorite comic book adaptations and a refreshing change from all the super-hero movies that have plagued us of late.      C’mon, how can you resist a super-powered Vegan with telekinetic powers?      See Full Review here.

Pros: entertaining! a little of everything-action, romance, comedy     Cons: Style and humor not for everyone     The Bottom Line: "I heart you, Sex Bob-omb!"     Struggling to recover from the gruesome break up with his Big Ex, Scott is currently dating Knives Chau, a high school girl five years his junior. He's enjoying the simplicity of just holding hands. Knives, sweet girl, is just a phone call away from stalker-intensity fan dom for …

Full of Zany Fun
First, I have a confession. I went to this movie in a feeble attempt to somehow prove to myself that this 40-year-old stay-at-home mom is still hip. (Do they even use the word "hip" anymore?) Yes, I was probably the oldest one there, and there were some parts that I was not crazy about – like the continual reference to the “pee meter” – but overall I enjoyed this trendy flick based off a graphic novel I admit I’ve never heard of.   …

Love it if you appreciate video games and pop culture. Hate it if you can't understand anything.
I haven't read the comics, but after reading up on the trailers and reading the backstory of the universe. I say it's a strong adaptation from comic to movie. I love video games so I understand all the references.      Edgar Wright maintains his film cred 3 years after directing Hot Fuzz and he manages to score again in this film. Here's the basics of the film/comic:      1. Hey I'm in a band, I rock!   2. Hey I see this amazing chick …

**** out of ****      Try to think of Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim” as a PG-13 version of “Kill Bill”, although with noticeably more CGI, romance, less revenge, no gore, and demon hipster chicks. I am about to say many things about “Scott Pilgrim”, but if there was a one word explanation for the film, it would obviously be awesome. Yes, this film takes you for a ride through retro romance and rock and roll radicallness. I consider it …

You'd have to be some sort of bitter, repressed twerp to hate this movie. There, I've said it. Bitter, repressed twerp please queue on the left to snark at me.    Scott Pilgrim VS the World is a delightful, enjoyable movie based on a series of graphic novels. It tells the story of Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a twenty-two-year-old slacker living with a gay roommate (Kieran Culkin), in Toronto. The most notable thing is his life currently is that he's in a band ("We're terrible," …

If you love action, if you live for comedy, if you get a nostalgic high from the electronic beep-boop sounds of eight-bit arcade games like "Pac Man" and "Space Invaders," then "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is the movie for you. This is mindless filmmaking at its best - no messages, no agenda, no introspection, just pure juvenile fun from start to finish. It's adapted from the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, but its style really owes more to video games, the structure fast and frenetic, the …

Every now and again there’s a film that makes me love being a film geek. Whether it’s the ageless wonder of the science fiction classic Back to the Future or even new classics that call back to the old days of crime capers like The Brothers Bloom, sometimes it’s simply easy to love film. Thankfully, Edgar Wright’s newest film is not only one of the finest examples of the idea, but also a hysterically original adventure that proved to be irreverently entertaining. The film …

Not a total waste (but certainly close) SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD could've been visionary for its clever use of comic bookish visuals played out against the greater world of young adult Canadian angst. Instead, what normally reliable director Edgar Wright does is allows these characters to serve second fiddle to increasingly bizarre special effects. It's one of the central problems that plagued the STAR WARS prequels; when the effects become more central to the story than the characters, then …

An Epic of Epic Epicness.
First off, the title. There IS no other way to describe this movie.      I dont care if Im being biased. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is the best movie ever. No I didnt read the comics, Yes Im a gamer.   Im sure we all know the Story, but heres watered down version for the slow people. Scott pilgrim has to defeat his Girlfriends (Ramona Flowers) Seven evil Ex-boyfriends. Plain and Simple. Something about Micheal Ceras character in this movie reminded me of his role …

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is one of the hippest, coolest, epic romantic fantasy films to come out in recent years. The only thing that is keeping this vibrant and imaginative graphic novel adaptation of the cult series form being a real hit is its extreme detachment from reality, its cartoonish nature and less than impressive script. "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is one of the more enjoyable films of the year but it sacrifices its promising adventure/ video-game style theme for a lackluster …

As a 46 year old male, I know that I am not the target audience for SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. But I am a voracious consumer of movies and feel that my tastes are pretty eclectic and that I'm open to just about anything (cinematically speaking). I'm also a fan of Michael Cera, even though I've said before that I'm a little tired of him presenting the same character over and over.     So, with all that said, I am sorry to conclude that despite the seemingly universal love of …

Pros: Great Cast, Story and FX.     Cons: If not a gamer, most jokes may be lost on you.     The Bottom Line: Comedy, Action, Romance, this film has it all if you want a pleasant distraction.     Scott Pilgrim, played by Michael Cera, is a young man whose life is going nowhere fast. At 23, he describes himself as in between jobs and spends his free time playing bass in a struggling band. But Scott does have a girlfriend named Knives Chau …
