No Clear In Game Instructions Make This a Poor Game for Preschoolers

Pros: This game does stick to the episode plot quite well.

Cons: The big con is that it really does not give instructions on what to do.

The Bottom Line: This could be a good Dora game, but the lack of instructions makes this a bad choice for most Dora fans, which is who this game most appeal to.

This Game Boy Advance game is based on the special Dora episode called "Dora's World Adventure."  The game does follow that episode's plot very well, but if you have not seen the episode then the plot may seem very unclear.  This is because the game gives no instructions or plot besides images.  This was probably done on purpose because the game is geared towards kids that cannot yet read much if at all.  However, the flashes of images do not do a good job of giving the plot unless you recognize them from the episode.  Thus kids really must have seen the episode for this game to make much sense.

In the game you go around the world to France, Africa, China, and Russia to find the friendship bracelets to give to Dora's friends.  Along the way you do very simple actions, however, it may be confusing to preschoolers, who this game most appeals to, because it gives absolutely no instructions when the active parts begin.  A few prompt you to press up or down if you remain idle too long, but not all of them seem to do this.  Most of the games are things like avoiding obstacles as you fly or drive or sail to the next destination and mazes to find objects and pass people or open gates in the destinations.  There are also games that you have to find the swiping animal hidden behind objects.

Overall this game has potential to be a good Dora game, but it just does not have the right stuff to be good for preschool fans of the show.  The graphics are sometimes decent Game Boy Advance graphics, but other times they are not very good.  The main issue is the lack of it telling instructions by either saying it or at least giving an image of what button to push.  I have played a few of the newer Dora games for the DS and these ones do the instructions mostly by talking and that works.  Perhaps the technology was not there to do it with the Game Boy Advance, but there is no excuse for it not having the image instructions, as at a few points if you are idle it does that.
