Call of Duty Black Ops is the seventh game in the Call of Duty series. It was developed by Treyarch and Published by Activision. It was released on November 9th 2010.

Call of Duty Black Ops is the direct sequel to Call of Duty World at War, the game takes place in the 1960s during the Cold War. You play as Alex Mason, who when the game first starts is strapped to a chair being interrogated by unseen captors about information he cant remember. A first for the COD series the missions in the game are presented as flashbacks from Mason’s memory.

When compared to the last two COD games, (MWR -Modern Warfare Reflex) and (WAW-World at War) Black Ops is more of the same, the campaign still features the same COD action and cinematic the series is known for, there is a lot more vehicle based gameplay, and it doesn’t seem like the AI has changed much (both the enemy AI and squad AI are still kinda dumb). Although Black Ops seems a lot more story driven than most Call of Duty games as cut scenes will pop in, in the middle of gameplay, and the game really seems to focus on the character of Alex Mason he even speaks during gameplay a first for the series. Despite this like I said before the campaign gameplay wise is more of the same. Were Black Ops truly shines though is online.

On top of new weapons, challenges, killstreaks, perks etc Call of Duty Black Ops features two new online modes called Combat Training and Wager Match. Combat Training is a mode that can be played either solo or with friends, you fight against practice dummies in various different online modes, its great because it gives new comers a chance to learn the maps before they head online against real people. The difficulty level of the dummies can be changed to be either more difficult (for Veterans) or less difficult (for new comers). The other new mode Wager match is where you gamble your COD points in different online modes (Team Death Match, Domination, Search and Destroy etc) if you win you gain points if you lose you lose points. If your wondering what COD points are I’m about to explain, COD points is a currency system were all Weapons (guns, grenades, sidearm’s, equipment), killstreaks, perks, and even camo have to be bought. You still level up as usual but in order to use your unlocked weapons and stuff you have to buy them. Other improvements or new features for online are hot fixes and DLC for the Wii version (none has been released yet), New killstreaks (RC-XD, Counter spy plane, Sentry gun), New perks (scavenger, hacker), (voice chat through the PDP Headbanger Headset peripheral (unlike Wiispeak you can talk to anyone and not have to add them as friends to do so), like WAW prestigeing once again unlocks extra custom weapons classes, and lastly the Zombies game mode is finally available for the Wii version. In Zombies players can play either solo or online with friends (or random people) as they try to take on endless waves of zombies, hellhounds and crawling creatures. For now there is only one map (Kino Der Toten) but it has been suggested that more will become available through DLC.

Graphics wise Call of Duty Black Ops is a step backwards as the characters look very bad and so do the environments. The guns don’t even look as good as they did in MWR. Although with all the new features packed into the Wii version it’s understandable. Gameplay wise Black Ops like I said earlier is more of the same offline you will run around for 8 hours shooting people for 8 hours then do it again online till the next game comes out. Control wise the same customization options from MWR reflex return.

A few points of criticism however are the same problems from both WAW and MWR’s online return in Black Ops (some hit detection problems, Unfairly grouping the teams, and some Lag), the graphics were a bit of a disappointment, you don’t get all the online bells and whistles found in the 360/PS3 version (killcam, COD editor, Clan Tags) and lastly the New COD Points system while cool at first get kind of annoying and would be a lot better if all weapons were unlocked from the start so that you could just buy them when ever you get enough points. Also while the game had its moments to me it just wasn’t as fun as previous call of duty games. (Maybe it’s just me) Despite these issues Call of Duty Black Ops is still a great game, the campaign longer (8-9 hours) and very immersive, the inclusion of the zombies mode is a welcome addition, lastly the inclusion of Voice chat and freedom to add and talk to anyone you want online just awesome. Next to Monster Hunter Tri this game is the closest thing to a 360/PS3 experience on the Wii.

Call of Duty Black Ops gets 8.5 out of 10.

The overall storyline in CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS focus upon Alex Mason, a member of the CIA's Studies and Observation Group (SOG) or Black Ops for short. The game opens with Mason tied to a medical chair, surrounded with monitors with a non-descriptive disembodied voice asking him questions. At the same time Mason keeps hearing and seeing a list of numbers. It's unclear until about halfway through the game whether Mason has been captured and is being interrogated by an unknown enemy or if …

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Review: The Best One Yet
The Call Of Duty franchise has had one heck of a year. It has seen the studio that originally developed it become involved in battle with its publisher that saw the founders of that company leave to start a new development house which left it looking like a shell of its former self. As most of you know, Call Of Duty isn’t made by just one developer like most games. Activision, perhaps with a bit of foresight, assigned two different dev houses to work on its key franchise- Infinity …
