Not long ago I was shivering in my chair as I tramped around the snowy, cold and desolate town of Dire Grove. Now I am sweating in Louisiana as I slog around in the rain and steamy heat. A Ohio family has inherited a decrepit southern mansion but soon after they move in, the father, Marcus Lawson, disappears while reading a bedtime story to his little daughter Magnolia. Magnolia, a cheeky and somewhat demanding little girl, believes her father was spirited away by a ghost. Dad had been deeply involved in searching for the treasure of a famous and infamous pirate named Phineas Crown. Was Dad grabbed by forces opposed to his finding the treasure? His wife, artfully weeping into a hankerchief, is pacing the floor and calls you in, the expert detective and all around handy man (you'll even be fixing toilets) to solve the mystery and bring Dad home from wherever he is.

The Mystery Case Files series is excellent and 13th Skull is no exception. However, they've introduced a new technique- the trick of super-imposing live actors over painted backgrounds and this manipulation works perfectly. You'll meet many locals in this caper and they are not above ordering you around, so you'll be kept busy finding stuff for them as they all appear to be an absent minded lot as well as lazy.
Your hurrying feet as you bustle around trying to keep everybody happy will take you into a creepy graveyard, with wet and slimy stones, into a cheesy tavern that you can practically smell, and into the forest, Spanish moss slithering into your face, sluggish waters infested with alligators. Atmosphere, atmosphere, you'll really feel you're in Louisiana because 13th Skull is going to dump you there and leave you there until you solve the mystery. The mini games you must tackle in your adventure can be quite fiendish so you've got a complicated series of demand performances ahead of you with appropriate music to get you in the mood. There are twists and turns galore in the plot to keep your interest high. A great game! Bon voyage!

In Mystery Case Files: 13th Skull you'll help Sara Lawson find her husband Marcus, who disappeared shortly after the family moved into a creepy mansion in Louisiana.

Sara’s daughter, Magnolia, believes her father was kidnapped by the ghost of a vengeful pirate seeking to protect his lost fortune. With the locals terrified of the pirate’s curse, you are the family’s last hope. Only a Master Detective can locate Marcus Lawson, and uncover the frightening secrets of the 13th Skull!
As we saw in the video trailer, 13th Skull integrates live-action video into the gameplay. Players will interact with twelve mysterious characters, asking questions to uncover clues. Other highlights include a custom soundtrack of bluegrass, jazz and blues music to help immerse the player in the atmosphere of the deep South. According to Big Fish Games, the game will offer 8-15 hours of gameplay.
