Windows Phone Apps I Use

  • Nov 12, 2009
  • by
Got my new phone and this is the stuff that I've added to it...so far. Things will make this list and things will get dropped from this list. So today, these are the apps that made the cut:
2
Glympse
Amazing GPS powered device to "share your where".  Unlike other location sharing apps, this one only shares a Glympse to a specific person for a specific amount of time.

My Review of Glympse
See the full review, "Give your peeps a Glympse - safe, secure, sharing of "where you are"".
3
moTweets
moTweets really got me to "get" Twitter which I am convinced is better served mobile. Most of the features that you would find in a desktop Twitter application, but in an easy to use, attractive mobile app.

My Review of moTweets
See the full review, "moTweets = mo Twitter fo me".
4
Microsoft My Phone
This application protects the data on my phone: call logs, texts, media files, etc. to an online locker that can transfer that data to a new phone. You can also archive. For example, you can keep old texts in My Phone's online locker and have them deleted from your phone. Another interesting feature is that this program will upload location data when it syncs, so if your phone is lost/stolen, you could get its whereabouts.
5
Midomi
This app will "listen" to music and check it against an online database to tell you what song is playing. It will also try to listen to you hum/sing, but this method is less accurate...or maybe that's just my singing.
6
Google Maps Mobile
I don't pay AT&T for their Navigator service, I have Google Maps for Windows Mobile. With the stuff they have in development, the GPS device could be an endangered gadget.
7
YouTube Mobile
It's YouTube...on my phone. Quicker and easier than going to the website, but it's lacking a few features. I'd like it to be easier to get the link to share via Twitter and Facebook. There is an icon to send via email.
8
Facebook for Windows Mobile
An improvement over just going to the mobile website in the browser, but could still use some tweaking. I *love* that it can upload photo AND video content.

No FB chat though. I also think it should refresh all of the tabs automatically when you log in and then every so often automatically without the user having to hit refresh.

What did you think of this list?

Thanks for this list, I must pass it on to my sister. She always asks me for app advice, but since she's not a iphone, i'm not sure what to recommend.

Lots of times, contrary to the commercials, you can get the same app for Window Mobile phones that the iPhone uses.

I'll have to check out Midomi because Shazam doesn't let me hum and sing!  Does the Google Maps for Windows give you turn by turn directions outloud as you go, or does it just give you directions?  Great list, JD, thanks for sharing! :)

Google Maps does not give turn by turn except on phones with the Android 2.0 OS. It should make it's way to the rest of us in the coming months.

Ah, what I would pay to see you sing into your phone to figure out the name of a tune! :D

Darn, I'm waiting for their navi to reach the rest of us non-Android peeps!

:x I'm going to need to download Midomi to see how accurately I can sing!
