Sure, the iPhone comes with a Weather application, but this is the Weather app from the weather people. It is really simple to add multiple locations, to switch from a hourly to a 36-hour or 10-day view, and even to see a radar view. I check it first thing every morning so I know which coat to wear and whether I need to bring my umbrella or not.
This application needs some upgrading, but we social butterflies need to update Facebook on the go, or at least we need to check in on our friends. So. We need this app on our front page.
I've tried numerous Twitter applications, and this one wins in my book. I spend plenty of time on the subway where there is sketchy Internet reception, and Tweetie still lets me favorite posts and create drafts when not connected. No need for a separate draft-collecting app. Plus, easy access to multiple accounts!
Mint is a great budgeting app, and will lead you down the right path if you keep in mind the advice Mint provides is from their advertisers. But the financial tools Mint provides are free and useful. A quick look and I know whether I can afford to go to dinner and a movie!
Okay, ready to go out? Whip out Flixster, which you may be familiar with from Facebook. If you're logged in, it already knows your favorite local theaters and you know within a few seconds what films are playing in your regular hood. Pick one and you are off to the movies!
Next step, open up OpenTable and see which restaurant nearby has a table for two. Let's go before, no, after the movie... touch, touch, done! That easy.
This is great for the after-movie conversation when everyone's talking about other movies they've seen, saying, "OH you should definitely see Robocop," or "Happyness is going to be your new favorite!" or whatever. Queuetastic links up with your Netflix Account and lets you put new movies into your Netflix Queue, from wherever you are. Or, if you've just seen a movie in your Queue, you can take it out. Very handy stuff.
This is one of my very very favorite applications. It has brought peace to my friends and family. After the meal is done, you put in the amount of the bill, the number of people dining (or the number of people paying if it's someone's birthday, for instance.) and put in the percentage of tip you want to pay. It automatically figures out how much EACH PERSON owes. AWESOME! No more squabbling over calculations.
Now we go shopping! Some of my family members like to comparison shop - and are big online shoppers. They love using this (on MY phone of course). Say we're in Border's and there's a book on sale - is this a fair price? Quick! Whip out the Amazon.com app and look it up. What's the going rate? It works for clothes too, and boy was it a help during the holidays. A fast way to find out what was sold out online.
This app is not something I use a whole lot, but on occasion I run into someone who has never seen an iPhone before and they want to know if I have that application that can figure out a song just by hearing it. That's this one. It works, and it's pretty incredible. It even links you to iTunes so you can buy it. Now available as (Shazam)RED to help fight AIDS in Africa!
I just got this application, but I have to add this as an update, because I use the website all the time, and it is AMAZINGly useful for movie fans like me. The Internet Movie Database is the granddaddy of go-to places for answers on actors and actresses. Find out what movies and television programs they've been in before, or who directed that movie you love. Each day there's a list of famous film folks birthdays. And it's FREE.

Does Tweetie let you sign into multiple accounts? Sometimes I like to have access to work accounts and my personal account...I'm using echofon right now and have no complaints except for the one-account thing! Thanks for the list.
