My top 10 movies of the naughties (2000-2009)

I just found a great list of movies of this first decade of the 21st century on Mediaite, but I don't agree with it all. So I made my own. Comments welcome!
1
Kung Fu Hustle
I've never seen anything like this. A kung fu movie, a super hero movie, a cartoon and a musical all in one? What? Kung Fu Panda had nothing on this movie!
2
District 9
You can read my review of this for more details. Most important for fans of Hollywood action movies, there are no big stars in this sci-fi movie, so you don't know who is going to live or die. That gave me a whole extra bit of suspense that always seems to be missing in major releases.
See the full review, "Science fiction gets a history lesson".
3
The Royal Tenenbaums
Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson write another awesome film.
4
Son of Rambow
I had no idea what to expect out of this independent film. It captured my imagination.
5
Anvil! The Story of Anvil
Here's a documentary that made a difference. It's the story of a heavy metal band that influenced other metal bands but never really made it themselves. But as a result of this movie, Anvil got the chance to go on tour like they never did in their younger days. Michael Moore should be jealous of this kind of return on investment.
6
Nacho Libre
This was Jack Black at his best. In a totally bizarre way, it reminded me of The Sound of Music.
7
Slumdog Millionaire
This was a wonderful story with fabulous cinematography, and the music was to die for. I ran right out and bought the soundtrack.
8
Let The Right One In
Before Twilight was a twinkle in your teen's eye, this foreign vampire flick was already out there showing the world what real young blood suckers act like. It was vampire before vampire was cool, (this time around, anyway).
9
28 Days Later... (2002)
One of the new generation of zombie films, this is well-done, clear and easy for new zombie fans to understand. A great way to get new zombie fan recruits. Excellent!
10
The Wrestler
A genuine, passionate, heartfelt story that brought Mickey Rourke back in the limelight. The story around the film is, granted, a good bit of the appeal. But the film is worth the watch. Not an easy film, but a good one that will stand the test of time.

What did you think of this list?

nice list! I am quite pleasantly surprised that KUNG FU HUSTLE made your # 1. I hope you saw the uncut version because it is a lot better!

Yes, I think I did see the uncut version the first time around. It was just such an original blend of genres, I'll never forget it! I don't often buy foreign-language films for my own collection, but I don't even notice that I'm reading, this moves so fast and is so fun!

That's great! Chow's movie was so much fun. Maybe you'll be interested in reading this review

Nice list! I made one here though I was inspired by the Onion AV Club's top 50 list.

I'd really like to see Let The Right One In, but I'm given to understand that they simplified and made horrible the subtitles on the DVD release compared to the theatrical version. Apparently the Netflix streaming version has the better subtitles.

I did, a few different ones. I also learned how to make mini video trailers for each movie as well.
