Here's Part One of my LA DJ tweeps IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER that you should definitely follow RIGHT NOW! Here's why- if you love to go out and have a good time, than these are the DJs to check out. If you like to go to spots with positive people, the best music, and good times- their events should definitely be on your LA To-Do list. Don't worry my Bay heads...you're time is coming ;p I've included websites so that you have a listen and judge for yourselves.

Michelle Q (MICHELLECUE)

Michelle Q is my partner in crime, she spins for the same reason I do- for the love of it. She spins anything from old skool to underground hip-hop to soul to funk to freestyle to breaks. She always supports art and music in her community- throwing events that blend both with dance for a great day/night out. Denny Kim (Denkym)

Denkym rocks, what can I say? He can scratch like a madman and make it look almost too easy. He has such an amazing style and spins everything, whatever takes away the stress and then, as soon as you're relaxed, he gets you up and grooving. Puffs, the only female I've seen quick mix so fast that if you're following her on the decks, she can run through your whole hour set in minutes. The girl is DOPE and she loves her R&B and not afraid of the jiggy if it'll get people dancing. If you see her spin, you WILL be dancing whether you like it or not! Her current residency is The Brig in Venice Beach on Thursdays. She's all about sharing the love and helping to inspire future DJs at Scratch Academy LA. I had first heard of Sha through Puffs and I remember when I first saw her, she was spinning Reggae/Ragga/Dancehall with such pure joy and passion. She's the first woman to win WMC Mix Battle in 2008. She does what every good DJ does, reads the crowd and gives them what they need. KSLY is the only DJ on here I haven't met but, love her style. She's a radio DJ, hosting shows on The Beat as well as with co-host Ludacris on Atlanta's Hot 107.9FM that spins some of the illest music I've heard. Her current residencies are: every Thursday night themed "SophistiFunk," at Gyenari Restaurant & Lounge where she plays Bossa, Funk, Vintage & Future Soul. I have only met Quickie Mart randomly once through his gig at Air Conditioned in Venice a WHILE ago when I first noticed that he wasn't like every other club DJ in LA. From his opening set to his last song, I was grooving the entire time. My fiance who is shy about dancing but, shouldn't be, couldn't keep himself off the dancefloor. DJ Shortee (DJShortee)

Shortee is the Queen of Scratch, when I was lucky enough to learn from her at Scratch LA, I'd get to REHAB early to spin and she'd be in a scratch sess with Denkym. Man, I LOVED watching those sessions. Whenever you see her spin, your body can't stop moving but, your eyes can't move away from her. She's just so incredible. Z-TRIP (ztrip)

What can I say about the inventor of the Mash-Up? I first heard Z-Trip when I was living in Reno from a bgirl friend of mine who had gotten his War Mix, recorded live at the Little Temple, from an LA bboy she knew. She said, Evoke, you HAVE to hear this- it has our name written all over it. She was right- I'd never heard anyone spin ALL the genres I loved in such a creative way before and it had an anti-war message to boot.
